Album Notes
Together, Ruthie Dineen (keys) and Doug Lee (bass) of RDL+ bring you their debut album of nine original compositions featuring some of the San Francisco Bay Area's greatest musicians. The title, "Mas P'alla Va", literally means "to the other side we go." For us it translates to living here, now, playing with open minds and hearts, and sharing music in a fully intentional yet free way. RDL+ aims to redefine and obscure the musical lines of jazz, with the intention of creating interconnected art and artists. This album is sure to take you on a journey from the inside out, to the "other side", that place in the universe beyond the walls of our mind.

Muchas Gracias por Mas P'alla Va!
With MAS P'ALLA VA, we have the unique opportunity to experience the music of two young and talented SF Bay Area composers. The music is varied and groundbreaking, without any cliched or overplayed standard songs. If you are a Jazz traditionalist, you may not like this one, but if you are looking for fresh and hip Jazz Rock fusion with a few sweet and/or melancholy songs, this album is for you.

Espana, Lucecita, and Road Palla are very hip and groovy. They will likely get you to stand up and dance, or perhaps tap your feet at least. Lucecita is also very sweet as it was written by Doug for his one year old daughter. Road Palla was written by Ruthie for John, so it is hip but also nostalgic.

94 Hour Blues and HMMM were both written by Doug and are challenging either in terms of meter or harmony. If you are in the mood for the challenge, they are really fun. If in the mood for something beautiful, For the Calm, written by Ruthie, is incredibly sweet.

Which brings us to Currents and Beyond, written by Doug and Ruthie respectively. These two songs are melancholy and sad, with a bit of nostalgia. But that isn't to say they are depressing because they are ultimately hopeful songs. These two songs were written in rememberence of their friend John Lazarus.

At the CD release concert, Ruthie Dineen and Doug Lee dedicated MAS P'ALLA VA to John Lazarus, their bandmate, friend, and mentor, who tragically passed in 2013. Although Ruthie and Doug composed all of the songs, most of them were developed with John as they (as RDL) performed numerous shows around the SF Bay Area. One of the main purposes of recording their gigging repetoire was to preserve John's legacy, and I believe they have done him well in that regard.

If you like interesting music, you need to check out MAS P'ALLA VA. Whether through soaring melodies, hip arrangements, or melancholy wind instruments, Ruthie and Doug will keep you interested. Their music will move you.
