ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This new music is scorching and you will be reminded again and again why you love music so much. It is compelling, honest, cliche free, magnificent and always fresh, vibrant. The band drives effortlessly, yet with an inspired edge through a wide variety of material. The thing I urge you to hear is Dannie Hofmann’s honest approach, it is a benchmark that gives it a signature feel and Stu Goodis - Guitar, Martin Torres - bass, Tyler Walton - drums are in a great level of creating here. Most interesting though is the contrast between the songs that are being played. The mix definitely gives the compilation a way of drawing you further and further in, as in a way that makes them sound tighter than tight. The solos are the same magic, always melodic, but very aggressive, in the pocket and hard cooking. The tenor sound to me is some of the most personal I've heard lately, real deal tenor sound drenched with bandstand experience and soul.

This is not just another jazz album. And it is not just another great jazz album! It represents something transcendent ... something historic. Here are players living for the music, away from a major city but also musicians that achieved something remarkable ... something of their own and something beautiful with elements that work seamlessly together, some of the most thrilling and imaginative and deeply moving jazz that I've been exposed to in a long time. The result is a far-reaching and intensely beautiful work that daringly demands your ears, just as great as anything you'd hear at " Smalls" in NYC or any major jazz festival. Real jazz being played with love and commitment. Every cut on this album rates five stars in my opinion. The music is characteristically action-packed in the tradition: powerful, dynamic- yet also very clear in detail. Beautiful music. Hear it, it's an asset to the art form of jazz.
