ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Regina was one of my best masters students at the Mendelssohn Hochschule. I am honored that she chose to record a whole CD of my
compositions. They are brilliantly arranged and creatively performed by her and her band.
Thank you Regina!"

REGINA LITVINOVA ,EXTREME TRIO' WITH STEPHAN URWYLER PLAYS THE MUSIC OF RICHIE BEIRACH

It is a particular challenge to interpret the pieces of such an important living composer and it was a great project for me to develop and record my own
arrangements of these pieces.
Richie Beirach is one of the great stars of Jazz, a great person and teacher. The native New Yorker has influenced the world Jazz scene as a unique
musician through his unmistakable style. Recordings with Mike Brecker, Quest, Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman -to name a few - prove this
convincingly. Today, Leipzig has become his second home, he has taught Jazz Piano there for several years now. When I met him several years ago, I was impressed with the way he conveyed Jazz. With his energy, he was the teacher that I had been searching for and I immediately decided to pursue my Master's
Degree with him. A big thanks to Reiner Witzel for making me aware that Richie actually lived in Europe and Chris for his first contact to him .

Out of this came great years of seriously wonderful work, marked by Richie's special Spirit of Jazz! For this I am forever grateful! His pieces are of a unique
depth, brilliantly thought out, catchy and especially full of harmony. They sound so wonderful and are still incredibly difficult to play. When, for my final
exam, I had to playa composer's set, it had long been clear to me that there could be only one:
Richie Beirach.

Sturmtagebuch einer Zugfahrt" (a tribute to Richie Beirach).
I already had the piece in my head, when a very precise opportunity helped me to decide its name. It's about a storm that caught me on the long train ride
home from Leipzig. Like so many other trains, we broke down due to the storm. Twelve hours later, after a really dramatic experience, I finally arrived
at home in the middle of the night. When I composed this piece and showed it to Richie, he thought about what the name should be.
He called it "Storm Diary - on the train" in German: .Sturmtaqebuch einer Zugfahrt". I would like to dedicate this work to him.
