ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
REJYNA
SOLO SOJOURN LIVE

Using the latest in musical instrument technology, the acoustic folk-rock performance you hear on this CD is created in front of a live audience ‘on-the-fly’ by one person.

Rejyna plays the rhythm passages while simultaneously recording them live onto a phrase looper. The looper then replays those parts while Rejyna sings and/or adds guitar leads and harmony guitar leads to those passages. During this guitar layering process, Rejyna sings into a vocal harmonizer that creates realistic multi- part vocal harmonies based on and mixed alongside her original voice.

The result is a full, natural sounding sonic presentation that comes across like more than one person is playing and singing. No pre-recorded ‘backing tracks’ nor in-studio overdubs are used on this recording – all layering or overdubbing is done by Rejyna on stage with the looper and harmonizer. You can check out Rejyna’s web videos to watch the process for yourself.

LINER NOTES:

I’ve had the pleasure of performing in many venues in my hometown during an extended visit with family and friends. Since it has been such a renewing experience, I’m releasing this CD of my solo live set to memorialize the good fun I have doing these performances with my guitar, looper and vocal harmonizer.

I've chosen the songs for this CD as a focus on some of the dream phases and life processes we go through when trying to find or rediscover ourselves, i.e., Self Doubt vs. Self Direction, Departures and Escapes vs. Surrenders and Separations, Renewal vs. Retreat, Cowardice vs. Celebration…

I am thankful for the supporters of original music, for the convivial coffee houses and taverns that give me stage time, and for the technology that enables me to put out such a big sound from one voice & two hands.

Thanks to You for giving my eccentric acoustic-rock a listen!

This CD is dedicated to my mom & daughter for believing in me even when I can't find myself, to Marc Cooper for showing me the tools that were a big part of my finding myself again & to Phil Maggini, James Eves III & Mike French for being musical and philosophical mentors.

Special thanks to my family, friends & listeners for believing that I have something worth sharing and to God for inspiring me to share. Thanks also to Eric & Espresso Yourself Music Café, Ralph & Java Central, Molly & Woodlands Tavern, Billy & The Shrunken Head, Marc & Dannette Hizer, Brian Schmidt, and the R&D visionaries at DigiTech, Ovation, Yamaha, Sony, Kodak and Audio-Technica.

LYRICS:

STYGIAN BARQUE

I can see what you mean,
but I cannot believe
that you've always been lonely,
alone with your dreams

You can draw your strength from me,
You can take what you see in this soul
who is only alone without dreams

Stripped of my heart
Raped of the things that I seem to be needing
Drifting apart
Torn in two pieces
of separate feeling
Stygian Barque
Sails in a stir with my innocence grieving
Where do I start?
Is this the way that a soul should be feeling?

Can I mean what I feel?
I assure you it's really a dream
that you're needing
to break away from your emptiness

From the spiraling stream
where the heart intervenes with the mind,
comes reality & true unity of your dreams

Stripped of my heart
Raped of the things that I seem to be needing
Drifting apart
Torn in two pieces
of separate feeling
Stygian Barque
Sails in a stir with my innocence grieving
Where do I start?
Is this the way that a soul should be feeling?

VOICE INSIDE

Where will these roads lead me?
When will I ever see
the things I need to carry me on my way?

Tell me, where do you think you'll go?
Follow the gentle winds that blow?
You can't go wrong if you’re
doing as you please?

Listen to the Voice Inside
From your dreams, you must never hide
You've got to learn to take it as you go

Waiting only grows you old,
listening is only doing as you're told,
the time slips through your fingers just like rain

Listen to the voice inside,
the time slips through your fingers just like rain

ON LIFE AND LIVING

There's nobody answering
my questions about living
I know what I've got and I ain't got it all
There's someone or something
pushing hard against my windows
And a remnant is all that remains of the call

The voices are echoing, "take me away!"
To castles and waterfalls, golden arrayed
The song always singing silently

There's too many nobodys
pretending to be living
"We know what you mean!"
No, you don't know at all
The surrendering stranger
is still at the window and the bridges of
fire make urgent the call

The voices are echoing, "take me away!"
To mountains and firesides, natural days
The song always singing silently

THE SONGWRITER

Lonely boy who plays his song
Tells himself there's nothing wrong
All alone but laughs with ease
Blinding lights but still he sees the way

Shy young girl who sings her heart
With her words will never part
Sings of things some cannot feel
Sings of dreams some call unreal
It seems they never dream

Where are you going, do you know?
Going alone it seems so slow
Where are you headed, do you care?
Hoping someone is waiting there for you?
Waiting there for you...
Seems so long but knowing that it's true
Waiting there for you...

Gray old man with his guitar
That old thing has got him far
Passed the lives of those who sought,
what they wanted and always got, it
seemed, but they never dreamed

Where are you going, do you know?
Going alone it seems so slow
Where are you headed, do you care?
Hoping someone is waiting there for you?
Waiting there for you...
Seems so long but knowing that it's true
Waiting there for you...

ANOTHER

HIDING / Another Day
WHILE CLUES ARE LEADING / Another Way
MORNING / It's Another Stay
AND THE CAST IS NEEDING / Another Play

PULLING - FOR RAINBOWS
that are waiting in the dawn
STRAINING - TO SEE
before we dare to move along
HIDING - IN SHADOWS
and the song begins to play
WORKING - TO BE
inside another dream away

PAINTING / Another Face
AS THE SUN IS DRAINING / Another Space
SPEEDING / Another Pace
WITH EYES SUSTAINING / Another Trace

PULLING - FOR RAINBOWS
that are waiting in the dawn
STRAINING - TO SEE
before we dare to move along
HIDING - IN SHADOWS
and the song begins to play
WORKING - TO BE
inside another dream away

FREEDOM DREAM

I woke up in that evening
and the summer skies were gray
Turned to you and spoke of leaving
You promised another day
You hold command of sunshine
and carry me away
But you never dreamed of sailing,
past the gates and the iron railing

Away
I've got to sail away
Today

Now the yellow streaks of sunshine
cross the wooden floor
I set the sails and pulled the drag lines
and closed the cabin door
Behind me rose the gates of my home
and you were on the shore
But you never cared for sailing
My tears fell on the wooden railing

Away
I've got to sail away
Today...
I've got to sail away

IN WONDER

Everything I touch, they claim's not
meant for me to feel
Everything I see,
they call illusion & unreal
I have always thought that what is
there is what is there
"Little do you know," they say,
"you're too young to be aware"

But I'm still a child in wonder
I have my need to be free
I still have my youthful hunger
I'm still me

Everything they live for
I have never really cared for
Seems as all their dreams
are of a secular endeavor
I have always thought
that what is there is what is there
"Little do you know," they say,
"and little do we care”

But I'm still a child in wonder
I have my need to be free
I still have my youthful hunger
I'm still me

They just go on unliving,
days upon the days
Celebrate their boredom
as their garden sprinkler sprays
I had always thought that the
morning wouldn't find them there
But little did I know they'd
grown too old to breathe new air

But I'm still a child in wonder
I have my need to be me
I still have my youthful hunger
I'm still free...

DREAMWORLD

Living in a dream world
Pack your blues away
Is it just a dream
or is that what your friends say?
Yeah, I say it's all right
The blues make morning skies gray

Come away with me tonight
Morning brings a better day

I need to see the other shore
Longing to live forevermore
Find what I have been hoping for

Living in a dream world
Pack your blues away
Never needing no one when
nothing narrows knowing ways

I need to see the other shore
Longing to live forevermore
Find what I have been hoping for

STANDING ALONE

Standing alone
a voice is calling me to roam
Whether to wander
away from my home

It's never easy to stand alone...

On the verge of losing reason
Lost reality
Like the changing of the seasons
Seeking harmony
On the edge of broken mornings
Gaining sanity
Overlooking scattered warnings
Again it's only me

Standing alone
a voice is calling me back home
Always I ponder, always to roam
It's never easy to stand alone

IF I CRY (instrumental version)

ARE YOU AWARE

Seems as though there's moments
when there's no one there to share
Life is only open
to the ones who are aware
to the ones who are aware
Are you aware?

Some find situations
when there's no one there to know
Open up your heart and
let your feel for friendship show
Find someone to know
When you seek what you're sending
you know you have what you need

A - Is for the Action that we need to
change the scene
W - For Wanting Words Which Work
With What We mean
A - Again allows us to
Accentuate our style
R - Is for our Reason, Reaching out
to share a smile
E - Is for Emotion

When you know what you're here for
Extending an open hand
When you feel what you go for,
how can you help
but make a stand?

Inside of your mind
Fear not what you may find
Raise your confidence
Gain experience
Seek the positive
Share the awareness
Avoid the careless
Strengthen your faith
Gather fresh breath
And when you awake
Stand strong on your ground
Fix what you break
Share what you've found

Seems as though there's
moments ticking out of our control
Paradise awaits those who
take heart in helping souls
Show you care by growing old
Life is only ours to hold

Very Impressed!!!
...got the cd a couple of days ago, LOVE IT!! your tunes bring back a lot of really good memories, and you sound GREAT!! I would say your voice is as good, or better, than ever. The use of loops is really clever, you did an amazing job of pulling it off!! VERY IMPRESSED!!!

Progressive Folk Rock with cutting-edge finesse
There are few artists who can pull off using a looper, even fewer artists who can use a vocal harmonizer without sounding plastic; Rejyna is one of those few solo artists who can use this type of technology without the audience sensing anything artifical. Her music is eloquent and her lyrics are true poetry!

Rejyna Tops My List
I first met Rejyna when she started her way down the solo path. Her music and lyrics are spellbinding. Her use of looping effects builds to a beautiful multi-guitar accompaniment that takes you with her on her journey in music, thought and time. Her use of the vocal harmonizer gives her music an almost mystical quality.
My favorite cut from this live collection is "Happy Hands", but "Stygian Barque" is a close second. Rejyna is best heard live, but if you can't catch one of her shows this CD is a must-have!

Sounds Great
Rejyna's solo CD is filled with songs that have depth and hope. Her use of a harmonizer and a loop is masterfully done and sounds as if she's playing in front of a full band. I would recommend this CD to anyone.

Blog Review Excerpt
Naked versions of songs featuring acoustic guitar and vocals alone is a daring way to go...a tradition as old as the acoustic guitar itself...dating back to when humanity first started to use music as means of relaxation and entertainment. . . Wandering, fragile guitar motifs underscore on most occasions, light of tone and filled with a melancholic atmosphere. . . emotionally laden performances. . . unique vocal delivery, with a range and tone not often encountered among female singer/songwriters. . . (Rejyna) always finds ample room for instrumental passages, in which subtle but intricate instrument runs and soloing are utilized to good effect to enhance the material. Many of them brief overlaying runs of the kind that calls for some rather nifty fingerwork, and frequently on top of a slightly contrasting motif. . . In sum this adds up to be tantalizing performances on the whole, with plenty of details to enjoy and emotional associations to be made. . . Those with a soft spot for acoustic, stripped down singer/songwriter material will be an obvious key audience, and I suspect that those with a particular interest in the acoustic guitar should find this one to be of interest as well. . . Awesome!
Everything about this album is just amazing. The songs are enchanting, the lyrics get your mind going in a big way, and the guitar playing is extravagant! I've listened to it over and over to try and 'hear the processing' as some say, but i just can't. The looper and harmonizer are apparently just that good. It actually sounded like harmonies and extra guitar parts, as opposed to pieces of equipment, as so many processors do. All in all I put this CD in my CD player and it hasn't come out. Great disk.

Rejyna's solo CD is a healing soul salve
I worked with Rejyna doing film restoration. She was the best manager that company ever had, kind and fair, understanding and available. It was only for a few months, but I could tell she was a very special person, but I didn't know she was also a composer and performer. When I read on her Facebook that she had released an acoustic live CD, I was surprised. I downloaded it and listened during a rainy day when I was feeling like life was weighing me down. After hearing her lyrics and the excellent guitar playing and singing, my attitude was so much better. It seemed to make my heavy soul a lot lighter. During the song Happy Hands, the sun came out!
