Album Notes
One of the most vivid scenes of the Alberta landscape are fields of canola in bloom. Drawing on this lush imagery, Noel skillfully blends multiple jazz styles and their energies to create an outstanding modern recording. Canola Bloom Yellow features a horn-heavy septet of preeminent Canadian musicians and has the lively sound of layered harmonies reminiscent of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in combination with a diverse collection of styles including straight ahead swing, hard driving shuffle, Latin jazz and jazz fusion featuring electric trombone. Thoughtful composition and Noel’s masterful command of the trombone fused with award-winning producer Paul Johnston makes this a must have album for music fans everywhere.
