ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Street Corner Renaissance Story
(Follow the man who follows the dream)

Looking forward to the past, Street Corner Renaissance (SCR) has defied the odds and did what many thought was either insane or impossible. The group’s founder, Maurice Kitchen, was a frustrated twenty five year insurance industry claims professional. (I used to wake up every morning and pray; “God, don’t let me die a claims adjuster. This can’t be the last thing on my resume” says Kitchen.) Lamenting about unfulfilled dreams and lack of earnest effort, he quit his job and joined forces with Torre Brannon Reese, the founder of a successful mentoring program, Kwame Alexander, a former Seventh Day Adventist Minister/ Pastor, Anthony (Tony) Snead, an itinerant legal assistant and Charles (Sonny) Banks, a city worker on the verge of retirement and a life of golf. The five banded together “for one last Hoorah!” They formed a group of distinguished gentlemen A Cappella Singers, Street Corner Style; dedicated to singing the music they loved from a by- gone era. Well past their prime; all had been long suffering with life’s responsibilities and dreams deferred when this fantastic voyage began

And what a voyage it has been. December 2013, the fellas suddenly found themselves in a’cappella heaven when they joined the cast of NBC’s season 4 network hit show, “The Sing Off.’ SCR was an instant hit and crowd favorite. Prior to that their biggest accomplishment included opening for Otis William’s Temptation, Chuck Berry, Kool & the Gang and Boyz II Men. Their sophomore CD “Life could be a dream” burned up the charts with hot singles ranking from # 1-17 in multiple categories on Billboard.biz. Their video of the same name can be seen on MTV, VH-1 and numerous other video outlets.
These cats can flat out sing and their infectious energy is quite entertaining as they transport their audience to another space and time recreating an authentic interactive street corner experience with the polish of a Vegas act replete with humor and masterful stage craftsmanship. (Think Rat Pack with smooth harmony & urban swag.)
Not just another singing group, Street Corner Renaissance intertwines social and cultural awareness themes in their music offering “food for the spirit” as well as the soul. Whether it’s a soul stirring tribute to the legendary Sam Cooke, love songs for the ladies, Black History themed conscious music or a rousing Gospel celebration, their superb vocal skills shine through.
An experience not to be missed; Street Corner Renaissance is living the “Impossible Dream Tour” and the ride continue…
