Album Notes
Hi! My name is Renee Alter. I was born in 1955 in Everett, MA, which makes me one of the 'boomers'. I started my music 'career' at the age of 6, playing Viola in my school orchestra. I played Viola until I was 12 yrs old. When I was 14, I was writing poetry. Then I bought an acoustic guitar and taught myself how to play chords. By the time I was 16, I was writing songs -- Folk & Celtic type songs. My first guitar teacher called my songs 'unadulterated folk'.

Some of my favorite artists are/were (some have passed on) The Beatles, The Grass Roots, Queen, The Moody Blues, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkle, Leonard Cohen, Enya, Delirium, Loreena McKennitt, & Liz Fraser (Massive Attack).

I consider each of my songs a 'gift' from GOD. I receive them when I think about situations in my life, people I talk to, and people I love. An entire song can form within minutes -- both instrumentals and lyrics. Then I am in awe at what comes through my fingers. The same thing happens when I write poetry and books, and take photographs.

Up until February 2012, I rarely shared my music with anyone other than family & close friends. After all, I really didn't believe I had anything close to the kind of talent my great uncle, Louis Alter, had. You can find information about him in "The New York Song-Writer's Hall-of-Fame". Well, things have changed. I've been "discovered". Someone told me that I was extremely talented and took interest in helping me get my songs recorded. Soon you will be able to listen to quality recordings of many of the songs I've been writing since I was 16 yrs old. Who knows? I may end up on a "Hall of Fame" someday, too.

I also write essays and books (the inspirational/memoir kind). I self-published my 1st book, "Appearances; A Journey of Self-Discovery", in 2000. My 2nd book, "Love, Life, and God; Getting Past the Pain" covers my journey for the next 16 yrs. I also just completed a 3rd book titled "Reflections: A Toolbox of Poetry". You can find these books on Amazon.

Because I have 'survived' many life challenges, I often reach out to help others who can benefit from what I've learned along the way. After all, I have lived close to poverty for a lot of years and I know what it is like. I also know what it is like to lose everything you have. I have endured a lot of hardships ... physically (had many accidents which resulted in chronic pain), emotionally (got my heart broken at least a dozen times), spiritually (depression leads to isolation and can separate you from GOD), & financially (to date I have moved 43 times & I could not take very many of my things with me many of those times). Also, my disability income (since 1998) doesn't go very far. I am hoping to earn money from my music & books so I can have a better quality of life. After I pay for the things I need, I intend to help as many people as I can with the rest.
