ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"When I was asked to arrange "Just Can't Get Enough" for string quartet for a friend's wedding, I told her it would sound totally naff- please don't make me do that. I couldn't have been more wrong. It absolutely rocked. Then it hit me- it works because the music is so perfectly "clean" and therefore translates to acoustic string instruments so well. Strings trying to play an electric guitar solo that's laden down with pedal effects sounds naff, even unrecognisable. But strings playing clean synthesizer riffs, which the 1980s had quite the love affair with, and strong vocal melodies- that doesn't stray so far from the original sound path. That's how Retrospect was born. Straight arrangements (with a bit of license for improvisation) that turn the string quartet into a 1980s cover band, backed up by bass and drums. It's the bass and drums that keep the songs packing their original punch and sets Retrospect apart from other "pop" string quartets.
