Album Notes
Rev. Yolanda's Country Gospel Kirtan combines Country Gospel, Native American, and Hindu Kirtan music combined with New Thought lyrics, and the occasional House Music beat. Think Pedal Steel, Acoustic Guitar, Tabla, Native American Flute. Lush vocals and harmonies with a touch of chanting.

Rev. Roger Anthony Yolanda Mapes is a singer/songwriter/drag performer and Interfaith Minister who's work as an Artist and Sacred Activist has earned him a place in The GLBT Hall Of Fame. He has been called:
" The Alien Love Child of Louise Hay and John Waters, with a splash of Tammy Faye ! "

Rev. Roger Anthony Yolanda Mapes (RoYo) is an eccentric, and ecstatic performer with a southern rock, country gospel style. He brings his message of Non Duality into every event by merging GLBT and Mainstream Popular Culture with Integrated Spirituality. With a soulful voice, a message of oneness, great costumes, and a wicked sense of humor, his shows and CDs emphasize love, beautiful melodies, interesting stories, and a bit of inspiration.

Wow!! LOVE IT!!!
First of all your voice sounds the best I've ever heard...And that's saying a lot. So smooth and effortless and full of color. The whole sound of the CD is so so tasty and musical. I love that there are so many strings that add different textures: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, sitar, banjo, violin. All of it works. Your producer and you collaborated on a work of art that reflects your new direction in such a hip, satisfying and spiritual way.

Lots To Enjoy!
Lot of interesting new things going on in the production, banjo and mandolin, sure. But lots of new synth and pedal steel. A nice sunny little harmonica on "God Is" and all kinds of trippy arrangements. And"Freedom" with a new updated set of lyrics! Lots to enjoy here.

Review by Bill Turner: "Rev. Yolanda's Country Gospel Kirtan"
"The first time I heard of Roger Mapes aka "Rev. Yolanda", was through a link someone sent me of the song "Love Divine" and I must say that I was just knocked off my chair. After further investigation into this artist, I traced this song back to the CD 'Rev. Yolanda's Country Gospel Kirtan'...which turned out to be a 12 song collection of his original compositions...all done in a most unusual, original and yet transcendant musical style. It ain't exactly 'old time' gospel, nor 'southern gospel'....but when I say 'transcendent', I mean that Mr. Mapes (who, incidentally is from Muscle Shoals, Alabama) so cleverly weaves elements of the traditional eastern tabla, combines it with gentle bluegrass instrumentation, superb vocal harmonies, stark bare-bones electric guitar...and makes it ALL work!
Roger's voice is expressive, believable...and just plain great!
All 12 songs on this CD are "A" material...there is not a weak cut on this whole album. Absolute highlights are: "We Are Angels"; "I Can See Peace"; "Home" and of course the incredible "Love Divine", which of itself, is worth the price of the album! Well written, catchy and yet spiritually contemplative...Roger Mapes is the best "contemporary Christian" songwriter I've heard in decades!

"Rev. Yolanda's Country Gospel Kirtan, Vol. 1: God Is"... . Very soulful, groovy, passionate, beautiful, and even empowering! Mostly country instrumentation and style with a touch of Indian instrumentation (like tabla) in a few places. To my kirtan friends: This is not a kirtan CD. But it's real country Gospel, and includes beautiful Rev. Chanda Rule on the song “Sweet Sweet Spirit”… gorgeous!
