ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
FAUST: A JAZZ OPERA IN ONE ACT

The legend of Faust has been passed from generation to generation since the early 16th century. One of the most famous settings was written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and is considered to be one of the greatest epic poems in Western literature. Although Goethe’s Faust is grand and philosophical in nature, it never loses touch with the legend at its core. Many other variations of the story have been written, including some with a musical setting. Faust: A Jazz Opera in One Act, with original music and lyrics, uniquely weaves this legend of the learned scholar, Faust, who sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for gifts of love, youth and happiness – gifts which have eluded him in his academic world of books and pursuit of knowledge. Turning his back on God, Faust makes this wicked pact, hoping to satisfy his desperate need to know the true meaning of his life.
