Album Notes
Tamoanchan was conceived as a paradise where the Gods of the Aztecs created the first of the present human race out of sacrificed blood and ground human stolen from the Underworld of Mictlan. Radio Free Clear Light has re-conceived Tamoanchan, the making place. Like the Tzitzimimeh of Tamoanchan, RFCL stole relics from the underworld, loops cut from old songs, bits captured from street corners, passages from under appreciated books, and mixed them with sacrificed blood. Blood is life, therefore anything live would serve as sacrificed blood, and in this case it was live improvisations, the music of the moment given up in devotion to the pure and resplendent act of creation. The new springs from the old and the old lives on, transformed in the new. This thing that you hold in your hands is now a relic, the cold dead remains of something that lived and breathed. Now it is your turn to choose whether or not to mix it with something live; the moment, your awakened attention, a new act of creation. Will you, or will you not raise Tamoanchan once more?

Albert Pollard - Aural Innovations

Spacey Electronic Experimentation, Fluent in Execution and Production
The album is minimal in its working, ambient in its structure, and fluent in its execution and production. It is concealed in darkness, devoid of light. It is ritualistic in pattern, where sombreness drives emotion through repetition.

It is an experimental sound, heavily laden with rhythmic drumbeats, sounding like a meld of Jorge Reyes and early Pink Floyd thrown into a darkened cave with Mescalito on trumpet and jazz vibe. This style remains throughout, getting darker, and a fraction jazzier as we proceed through. It has a definite Jorge Reyes aspect to it, which I love, and it really gets to the heart of what Radio Free Clear Light are trying to achieve on Joyful Noises Vol 1: Tamoanchan.

The majority of the tracks have a very hypnotic ambient trance feel to them, which some people have likened to Steve Roach and Bill Laswell, and I hear what they mean, but I find this better than any Steve Roach or Bill Laswell album. There are many resemblances in this genre, and a lot of them can be found on Black Note Music. Kyron for one is very much in the same vein, very experimental in nature, whilst being very electronic in sound.

Joyful Noises Vol 1: Tamoanchan is exactly this, a spacey electronic experimentation; I look forward to
Joyful Noises Vol 2.
