ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With Leslie Lake Searle, Soprano, and Ross Thompson, Baritone. The period from 1900 to 1948 was an extraordinary time when songwriters and lyricists developed a new expression for the American stage. It was a transition from the European Operetta style of Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg to that unique American presentation called musical theatre. The great songs writers and lyricists on the recording provided a richness of melody, harmony and expression to the world of musical theatre that was unique to those decades. Their songs are heard now with nostalgia by many, and with wonder by those who have discovered them more recently. The Melody Lingers On brings those lovely songs back to the audiences of today.

"The playing is flawless and the vocals are stellar. It is obvious that a lot of care went into this recording. The songs were well chosen and the treatments are faithful to what I imagine the originals were like. If you are a fan of traditional jazz and early 1900s theatre and salon music, this is a CD that must be added to your collection."
