Album Notes
When we started this project in 2012 we weren't sure exactly how this album would evolve. Doug Arthur has been writing songs for a long time, many of which echo a different era - 1920's, 30's, 40's or 50's sounds - a little pop, a little jazz, a little classic country, and a lot of swing. Rhonda and Doug picked some of the songs they were performing live, contacted Greg Ruby, and we started planning this record. Greg was in Seattle so there were lots of e-mails and phone calls! We wanted a traditional jazz sound for some of the songs, and Greg started making calls to Dennis Lichtman and Gordon Au in New York, and Charlie Halloran and Cassidy Holden in New Orleans. These guys make up a group called, "The Rhythm Runners", and they really swing!! Greg and Doug worked up the arrangements for five of the songs, Greg came in from Seattle , and we all gathered at National Media Services studio in Front Royal, Virginia. Greg conducted the session, and Rhonda Sager joined us as the vocalist for the tracks.

Greg and Doug decided to do the other seven songs on the album with a small group swing, lounge sound, and pulled in bassist Dave Hurt and drummer Burke Daugherty. Greg played rhythm guitar on all the songs and added lead guitar parts later. Bill Vaughan joined us and contributed some great piano parts, Rhonda sang, and we had the makings of an album!!

This album is a tribute to all those great songs from the 20's through the 50's - The Great American Songbook - and traditional jazz and swing. All the musicians are amazingly talented, and they helped achieve the sound and "feel" we wanted on this album. This album is a throwback to, "way back when", and we hope you enjoy . . .
