Album Notes
"Rhythm Lords - The Early Days (1988-1992)

Dedicated to a fallen brother

During the early days of the Rhythm Lords, the trio of Richard Dover (drums), Steph Traino (bass guitar) and Dale Peterson (guitar and vocals), recorded two EP's.
"Rhythm Lords" was released in 1990 and contained three original songs written by Dale Peterson. "El Norte", "Blue Season" and "Cobra".
"Evil" was recorded a year later and contained five Peterson originals and cover of "Evil" by Willie Dixon. Rebecca Records issued both EP's in cassette format only - back in a day when CDs were still a new and expensive venture. Neither of the two EP's were ever released in digital format - Until now!

Special bonus

Included in this package are three songs that were recorded during sessions for "Evil" but were never finished or released. With the help of pro-tools and engineer/co-producer, Glenn Nishida at Pacifica Studio, Los Angeles, these ten performances have been remixed to re-mastered to reflect the power and energy of a band searching for their own unique sound.

The power of Richard Dover's drums is a clear indication of what the Rhythm Lords were all about during those early days. Loud and Proud - the Rhythm Lords carved out an audience from the depths of the L.A. art scene calling legendary Al's Bar in downtown Los Angeles their home base for a while.
With Steph Traino in lock up step with Dover's drums, the band creates a sound that borrows from the blues, surf, rockabilly, swing and hard rock all filtered through the influences of The Fabulous thunderbirds, Los Lobos, The Blasters, The Doors, The Cruzados, Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top to name a few.

"It's like some heavy roots-rock gumbo", "says Peterson". "I like loud guitars, big drums and a bass guitar that drags the basement looking for the bottom".

Coming Soon!

And as if all that wasn't enough, this CD release marks the first of a two-part celebration. Root 66 recording company is currently in production of a documentary film on the Rhythm Lords during those early days between 1988 when the band was formed to 1992 when Richard Dover left the band. The DVD, will be a companion to this CD. Stay tuned!

This CD was produced with love for the memory of our friend and drummer extraordinaire, Richard Dover (1958-2004)

Music to drive by!!
The Rhythm Lords, The Early Years is a great collection of rockin rootsy tunes. The Band is on point, great playing all around, Dale Petersons tasteful guitar playing and sounds are a highlight. These guys have chemistry that opens a window to a place in time, before smoking bans and mp3's ruled the world. "Pay His Way" is just the right song to come over you car stereo speakers when you twist the key, "El Norte/Voodoo Queen" is when you have reached cruising speed and "Venting anger" is when your right foot hits the floor!! Perfect soundtrack for a cruise down the Kalanianaole Hwy. : Dale Peterson - guitar & vocals Eric Von Herzen - harmonica Steph Traino - bass Kip Dabbs - drums
