ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Artist Ricardo Tlalli Lozano descendant of the Huichol people was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, came to the U.S at the early age of 5 years old and was raised in East Los Angeles.

At the age of 13 years old Ricardo joined a local Aztec Dance group in the city of El Sereno, and that's when he was introduced to the art and the musical aspect of the culture. By the age of 15 Ricardo won 1st place in the Southern California ceramics contest with 2 Pre-Columbian Urn replicas he created in high school. Before graduating from High School Ricardo had already created simple replicas of many ancient Aztec/Mayan flutes and percussion instruments.

In 2002 Ricardo humbly accepted an offer from Natural History Museum in Los Angeles to create replicas of Mayan Stellas (Grecas). Ricardo became one of the few self taught artist who was able to construct instruments by studying the ancient manuscripts which were identical to the instruments that were created and used by the Mesoamerican people.

Through out the years he has perfected the sound, tone, and quality of the wind instruments along with his clay, wood sculptures and carvings. All flutes are tuned to a certain key on the Pentatonic native scale.
