Album Notes
I always wished I had a high voice. But I don’t. I’m stuck with a low mono/baritone. In 2005 I broke up with my wife of 10 years and moved back to the woods of northern Minnesota and recorded this album. My band, Ol’ Yeller also broke up. More topics touched upon on this album are drug addiction, the psychedelic experience, and my own heartbroken condition at the time of the recording. Pretty heavy stuff. Wecome to my own personal hell. I know it’s a dark album, but it has its funny moments. Having the time and space to finish this record saved my life, although without the pews that came with the church I moved into I would have been completely broke and homeless by now. I took a huge leap of faith in 2005, and everything is better now, thank you.

Rich Mattson is a rock and roll die-hard from northern Minnesota. He plays in 3 bands (most notably as the frontman of Minneapolis' Ol' Yeller), performs solo, and has owned and operated his own recording studios (Flowerpot, Sparta Sound) since 1991.

Since he picked up the guitar at age 13, Rich has written and recorded hundreds of his own songs. With 5 full-length albums from the Glenrustles (1988-1999) and 5 from Ol' Yeller, Inspiral Notebooks is Rich's first solo release.

Recordings are culled from late-night sessions dating from 1998 to February of 2007. Rich filled up his tracks with various guitars, drums, percussion, and sound effects.
