About Richard Toups

I was born on July 31, 1953, in Houma, LA. I have 35 plus yrs. of experience in music. I am a singer/ songwriter/ percussionist, who believes that music is a gift from God. A godsend. I have performed and recorded with local talent (artist and songwriters), to superstar headliners, never forgetting where my roots are. Have also performed from the Fibark Festival, on the Arkansas river, in Salida, Colorado, to the 5-star hotels in Miami, Florida. I started singing in the 60's, at the age of 14, and performed with a local group called the living sound, in the 70's, the Levee Band, which ultimately became Louisiana's Leroux, and Madonna (a soulful rock group). Also, started recording jingles, from the 70's to the 90's. Recorded jingles at the Jam Factory, in Gramercy, LA, U.A.R. Recording Studio, in San Antonio, TX, Cosmo's recording studio, in New Orleans and Apple Tracks recording studio in Houma, LA in the 80's, sang and played percussion with the blue eyed soul revue and in the 90's, the Reverbs. I am now singing and playing percussion with a jazz / soul group from Thibodaux, LA, called "Jazmine"--- a soulful horn group, in New Orleans, LA, called "Kingsroe" and also perform weekly, in Houma, LA, with a local recording artist, singer, songwriter, pianist, Todd Adams. I have performed with Louisiana Lerouxs', Rod Roddy, Leon Medica, (who wrote New Orleans Ladies) and Tony Haselden (who has written 9- #1 hits in Nashville), Grammy nominee Tab Benoit (voice of the Wetlands), the legendary Percy Sledge, Jean Knight, Pete Fountain, The Temptations, War, The Ides of March, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Fred and the Playboys, New Orleans' Own, Ernie K. Doe, Oliver Morgan, and the one and only Dr. John (Mac Rebennack). some CDs I've appeared on include: Chris Wells, Todd Adams, Jayde Chase, Buddy Bunn and Jazmine. I've just recently finished recording, my new CD, "The Right Time", collaborating with several so. Louisiana songwriters and artists, which will be released in may of 2007. Recorded @ digital Sacalait productions in Houma, LA, Pershing Wells, sound engineer/ producer.
