ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rich Logan's Kirtan(Devotional Chanting) band, AKOUSTIKIRTAN has a debut CD coming out Nationally in January. A blending of the Spiritual and Secular, Akoustikirtan promises to uplift and awaken. The album features many of Chicago's best musicians. Graham Nelson's harmonica playing is sublime and masterful. Bob Garret's drumming spans from the subtle, to driving rhythmic epiphanies. Michael Taylor brings his expertise and spirit on the Djembe Kit. Ryan Shultz and Doug Rosenberg, two of the most respected jazz musicians in Chicagoland bring their skills on Bass Trumpet and Saxophone respectively. The instrumentation is diverse and eclectic from Harp to Indian Flute, Drum Kit to Talking Drum, Piano to Dilruba. All the instrumentation is Acoustic led by Rich Logan’s eclectic guitar playing and impassioned vocalizations. The music is mostly original paying tribute to the ancient aspect of Kirtan, but with a modern take, interspersing secular music throughout and a couple of familiar covers. Listen for interpretations of George Harrison's "Here Come the Sun" and Eden Ahbez's "Nature Boy" as they seamlessly blend into the chants. The Album also features the vocals of Riley Koran, Jaylen Green, blending their voices in unique harmonies that can be only described as angelic soul. Also bringing their adept skills to Akoustikirtan are Tatiana Sanchez, Paula Battaglio, Ed Sullivan, Greg Neergard, Jim Hines, Jennifer Alexander, Amy Beth Treciokas, Abhaijot Kaur, Michelle Ferguson, Bob Garret, Alex Duvel and Mamadou Sarr. Intro: Akoustic Gate (2:55)

I Am… A Trio of Bliss(13:31)
Om Asatoma, Om Mani Padme Hum, Gate Gate
SO MANY HOURS SPENT IN CONTEMPLATE
I THOUGHT I KNEW THE REASONS FOR MY BEING
NOW STARTLED I THINK SOMETHING LARGER HERE
AND ALL THIS QUIETUDE IS GETTING COMPLICATED
I SENSE THE SEASONS CHANGES
WHY DOES THIS LEAVE ME SO ALONE
OM ASATOMA SATGAMAYA
TAMSOMA JYOTIR GAMAYA
MRITYORMA AMRITAM GAMAYA
∞ÕM MANI PADME HUM∞
IN THIS DARK PLACE IT IS POSSIBEL TO OPEN THOSE EYES A LITTLE WIDER
TELL ME WHAT DO YOU SEE?
THOSE LIGHTS IN THE CORNER, RECEDING, ARE REACHING
YOUR SOULS ALMOST FREE
∞ OM MANI PADME HUM ∞
I WALKED THE NIGHT ALONE THE STARS HAD LED ME TO THIS DESERT
SEARCHING FOR A WATER THAT WOULD NOURISH MY LOST SOUL
BUT IF IT’S TRUTH I SOUGHT I BURIED IT DECEPTIVELY
I BOUND IT TO MY BREAST IT COULD NEVER SET ME FREE
Ω BUT THEN THIS MOON, REFLECTING IN THE WATER, SHE BRINGS ME BACK TO WHAT IS MINE, PROTECTED IN THESE WATERS,
AND THEN THE MOON REVEALS
THE BROKEN SPIRIT IS THE ONE THAT IS DIVINE
I AM NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE…Ω
AND ALL THESE VAIN ATTEMPTS AT ‘QUIET DESPERATION’
SEEM TO STIR IN ME THE WOUNDED BEAST
THAT CHANTS THE CONSTANT CERTAINTY
I AM THIS LIGHT, I AM THIS BREATH, I AM THIS LONGING
I AM THE GIFT I’M SO AFRAID OF A JEWEL MISTOOK FOR STONE
Ω I AM THIS MOON… NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE Ω
WE ARE LIGHT
WE ARE BREATH, WE ARE GIFT
WE ARE ALL
GATE GATE, PARA GATE, PARASOM GATE, BODDHI SATVA
WE ARE THE LIGHT, WE ARE THE BREATH, WE ARE THIS LEARNING… BURNING… TURNING… YEARNING

Kali Durge (8:10) KALI DURGE NAMOH NAMAH

Ashira (10:15)
ASHIRA V’AZAMEIRA URA K’VODI
I WANT TO DANCE, I WANT TO SING,
I WANT TO CELEBRATE MY SOUL

When the Darkness Gets Deeper/Ram(11:00)
Ø WELL THE DARKNESS GETS DEEPER
IT’S JUST BEFORE DAWN
AND THOUGH THE SOUL FEELS MUCH WEAKER
IT KNOWS TO STRIVE ON
§ YOU PUSH, I PULL…YOU GIVE, I TAKE
YOU RISE, I FALL…AND YET WE STILL FORSAKE
YOU SEEK, I HIDE…YOU SPEAK, I HEAR
YOU TOUCH, I QUIVER… CAN WE LET GO OF FEAR? §
Ø WELL IT’S EASY TO GIVE IN
WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE WHAT’S REAL
WHEN YOU STAND IN YOUR ANGER
AND YOU FORGET TO FEEL
THOUGH THE DARKNESS GETS DEEPER
IT’S JUST BEFORE LIGHT
AND THOUGH THE SOUL FEELS MUCH WEAKER
IT’S GATHERING MIGHT
§WHILE YOUR ACHING FOR THE PRIZE
DON’T YOU KNOW IT’S INSIDE YOU
WHILE YOUR ACHING FOR THE TRUTH
THE PATH IS RIGHT THERE BESIDE YOU §
Ø SOMETIMES THE SEARCH FEELS SO EMPTY
AND THIS LIFE FEEELS SO WORN
BUT THEN A MOMENT OF BLISS COMES
AND YOU KNOW WHY YOUR BORN
RAM RAM RAM BAJAMANA HARE HARE
RAGUPATI RAGHAVE RAJA RAM
PATITA PARVANA SITA RAM

The Apex I: Om Namoh/Nature Boy(9:32)
OM NAMOH
BAGAVATE VESUDEVAYA
THERE WAS A BOY, A VERY STRANGE ENCHANTED BOY
THEY SAY HE WANDERED VERY FAR OVER LAND AND SEA
A LITTLE SHY AND SAD OF EYE BUT VERY WISE WAS HE
AND THEN ONE DAY, ONE MAGIC DAY HE CAME MY WAY
AND WHILE WE SPOKE OF MANY THINGS, LORDS AND KINGS, THIS HE SAID TO ME
THE GREAST THING YOU’LL EVER LEARN IS JUST TO LOVE AND BE LOVED IN RETURN

The Apex II: Here Comes the Sun(2:47)
LITTLE DARLING, IT'S BEEN A LONG COLD LONELY WINTER
LITTLE DARLING, IT FEELS LIKE YEARS SINCE IT'S BEEN HERE
HERE COMES THE SUN, HERE COMES THE SUN
AND I SAY IT'S ALL RIGHT…
LITTLE DARLING, THE SMILES RETURNING TO THE FACES
LITTLE DARLING, IT SEEMS LIKE YEARS SINCE IT'S BEEN HERE
HERE COMES THE SUN, HERE COMES THE SUN
AND I SAY IT'S ALL RIGHT IT’S ALL RIGHT IT’S ALL RIGHT
SUN, SUN, SUN, HERE IT COMES...
LITTLE DARLING, I FEEL THAT ICE IS SLOWLY MELTING
LITTLE DARLING, IT SEEMS LIKE YEARS SINCE IT'S BEEN CLEAR
HERE COMES THE SUN, HERE COMES THE SUN,
AND I SAY IT'S ALL RIGHT IT’S ALL RIGHT IT’S ALL RIGHT

The Apex III: Bhola Mana Mere(8:19)
BHOLA MANA MERE
OM NAMAH SHIVAYA
HARE OM

Shiva Shiva Shambo(10:21)
SHIVA SHIVA SHIVA SHAMBO
MAHA DEVA SHAMBO
SHIVA SHIVAYA
DO YOU NEED SOMEONE
COULD YOU BE THE ONE
DON’T YOU KNOW THAT YOU AND I AND ALL WE ARE HERE IS ONE DEAR
AND WE’RE FLYING IN FREEDOM
JUST FLY IN YOUR FREEDOM
