Totem

by Rich Mattson and the Northstars

Rich Mattson and the Northstars 4th album, Totem. The four-piece “cosmic folk” group has twisted the gauge towards rock on this one..bouncy, jangly, guitar-driven rock. With harmony and a sense of urgency that has you on the edge of your seat by the end.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Presenting: Rich Mattson and the Northstars 4th album, Totem. The four-piece “cosmic folk” group has twisted the gauge towards rock on this one..bouncy, jangly, guitar-driven rock. With harmony and a sense of urgency that has you on the edge of your seat by the end. Mostly up-tempo numbers, with just enough languidity along the way to keep you from jumping off.

Rich Mattson and the Northstars spent the past year playing shows all around the great state of Minnesota. From the Twin Cities to Grand Marais, on over to Park Rapids, Duluth, and around their home-town of Sparta, on the god-forsaken Iron Range. They ventured down to Kansas City and thereabouts in November, just to test the waters and found them to be warm and accepting.

It is highly likely you have heard of Rich Mattson. He has been making music since (whispers) the 80’s, with groups such as: The Glenrustles, Ol’ Yeller, the Tisdales, the Bitter Spills, Junkboat, and of course Northstars' first mate Germaine Gemberling. He has also been recording music at his studios Flowerpot (Minneapolis 1991-2005) and Sparta Sound (2005-present). Everyone from Trampled By Turtles to Channy Leneigh has sung through his microphones. Literally thousands of artists. A native of Eveleth, MN, Mattson spent 18 years in Minneapolis before returning to the northland. There he is living the dream of running a recording studio out of an old country church and playing music with his friends, full time, all the time.
