ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
On March 12-14, 2015 The Richter Uzur Duo (Viktor Uzur - cello and Brad Richter - guitar) played three concerts for the University of Arizona’s UA Presents at Tucson’s Club Congress, a popular concert venue in the Congress Hotel. A Tucson landmark since its Wild West days, The Congress is the site of some of the city’s most interesting history, including the arrest of John Dillinger in 1934. The club itself seats 100 with room for around 30 more standing. The best seats being cabaret style tables abutting the small stage and only inches from the performers.

The packed houses and club atmosphere during the Richter Uzur Duo’s three- day run at the Congress revealed their love for rock music and spontaneity. From the hip-hopesque mixing of Rhapsody in Blue with Seven Nation Army, Sweet Dreams and Smells Like Teen Spirit to the improvised homage to Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall in La Folia, from the rhythmic drive of their Balkan Kolos to the encore, Bohemian Rhapsody, with its surprise nod to Luigi Boccherini, the Richter Uzur Duo lead its Tucson audience on an inimitable musical journey. This recording endeavors to put the listener in one of those stage side cabaret seats, to ride along with Brad and Viktor.

The duo records many of its concerts for broadcast on American Public Media’s Performance Today. The atmosphere, the sound and the audience at Club Congress and that this was one of Brad and Viktor’s all-time favorite playing experiences, inspired them to want to archive and share this recording as an album.

The encore performance of Bohemian Rhapsody was recorded at the Flickinger Center in Alamogordo, NM, another concert that was a favorite of the duo’s and of Performance Today.
