Album Notes
Rick McCarthy is a long-time drummer - and more recently - guitar player and singer-songwriter. "Message of the Muse" is his debut CD. As a musician and music aficionado, Rick was exposed to a multitude of musical genres. However, the music that holds a special place in his heart is pop and jazz, or a combination of the two. This includes the music of the Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Michael Franks, Shirley Horn, Todd Rundgren and his all-time favorites - Steely Dan. All of these artists created music (and some continue to create music) that crosses boundaries. These artists colored outside the lines, where some of the most interesting musical patterns and designs can be found. And it is from these artists and from these places that Rick found the inspiration for "Message of the Muse", assisted by the talents of some great Central Massachusetts musicians.

If you'd like to hear more of the music that Rick loves and which continues to inspire him, tune into 90.5, WICN in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he hosts "Jazz Highways", Monday through Thursday, from 9am-12pm.
