I wrote the Heaven Was Blue album in 1978 for myself. I didn't care for the disco music in those days. My musical influences were The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Never being completely satisfied with the finished product of the album, or the artwork, and after realizing the cult classic status it has earned around the world, I decided to upload this album as it was originally released and make it available for purchase.

REALITY was written in 1976 in Missouri, in the Ozarks at night in a graveyard. Looking at gravestones, I wrote about life and death and how fast it goes.

IN MY MIND was my first song I wrote in 7th grade in the late 1960s. The lyrics were kind of like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, about a guy who was tripping and hallucinating. At the end of the song, he dies.

HISTORY MAKIN' - COUNTRY SHAKIN' and ROCK ALL NIGHT LONG were written about my band, The Ambassadors.

HEAVEN WAS BLUE was made up of four short songs. Paul Stanley of KISS was in Canada and came to see one of my shows. Being a big Elvis fan, he came backstage. I played him three songs and he suggested to me how to put the songs together. The lyrics were collaborated from Edgar Allen Poe stories. Just having fun with lyrics with no real meaning. I was imagining an acid trip where the person tripping yells out, "Oh, heaven was blue!" My white German Shepherd is heard howling on this track. Heaven Was Blue was recorded while I was in New York doing the Broadway play "The Legend Lives On". The play ran Tuesday through Sunday. After the matinee on Sunday, I flew home. I was at the recording studio from Monday morning at 10:00 am until 2:00 am on Tuesday. I caught a flight back just in time for my performance on Tuesday evening.

"In the brightly colored beehive where rare psychedelia drips like honey from the walls there's been buzz on this mysterious LP for several years, partly due to its musical appeal, partly due to the background story, which is a tale worth telling. Rick Saucedo is mainly known as an Illinois-based Elvis impersonator, and a successful one at that, but some time when the King's ghost wasn't looking he sneaked out and cut himself two sides of music that were as far to the other end of the spectrum as you can imagine; dreamy, melodic 60s-style psychedelia." -- From lysergia.com
