Clean Getaway

by Ricky Byrd

This is a Rock and Roll record with a not too subtle message. It's all about Addiction, Recovery, Hope and Possibilities. I just celebrated 30 years clean and sober, and this is my way of spreading the message. Turn it up loud and enjoy!! Ricky ByrdRicky Byrd – Clean Getaway Recovery Troubadour Records https://www.cleangetaway.nyc. Rating: A Ricky Byrd is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his time spent as the lead guitarist in the Blackhearts….Yeah those Blackhearts as in Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Ricky is the “I Love Rock N Roll” guitar player. Does it get anymore iconic than that? In addition to Joan, the Byrd-man has also had a huge career with cats like Ian Hunter, Southside Johnny and Roger Daltrey. He is also a successful solo artist. Did I mention that 30 years ago none of that almost mattered? That’s because Ricky had a drug problem. Instead of burning out or fading away, however, Byrd did something about it. Album Notes
The music I create is a direct result of the sounds I soaked up as a little kid in the 60's and a teen in the 70;s . From Chuck Berry to the Stones to Sam Cooke and everything in-between I love a greasy groove and a solid melody.
A beautiful acoustic guitar or a swampy electric can set the mood from the first chord. Add a B3 organ or a piano, a few horn stabs for that Stax sound, some gospel backgrounds and a locked rhythm section and it's musical magic. That's what I always strive for.
The lyrics on this cd are a direct result of my 30 years + of recovery . Songs about addiction and recovery by an addict in recovery.
Hopefully someone will hear something that needs to be heard.
I wanted Recovery to be the special guest on this Cd so I didn't call on a lot of my friends to play on it, but I did have a few cool guests.
All Guitars were courtesy of yours truly.
Bass guitar was my co producer Bob Stander
Drums - The Might Steve Holley (Wings, Ian hunter,Joe Cocker etc)
Keys -
Andy Burton (Ian Hunter, Steven Van Zandt, Cyndi Lauper etc) played on the majority of the record.
Jeff Kazee (Southsode Johnny, Bon Jovi etc) played some bad ass b3 and piano on Lighthouse and Accordian on Broken Is a Place
Last but not least my new pal Bobby Whitlock ( Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominos) played some nasty B3 and piano on my blues tune Clean Getaway.
Rounding out the cd on Back Grounds
My soul sisters
From the SNL band Christine Ohlman
Marge Raymond (Flame, ELO)
If that wasn't enough we had some gang vocals from The Mainstream Sober House Soul Shouters.
A few Newcomers in recovery testifying at the top of their lungs.

That's the story.
Hope you enjoy the record!!
Make sure to turn that volume up nice an loud.
