ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Original soundtrack to the award-winning motion picture “The Grave Bandits” (Best Director, Best Picture at the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival). Music composed and produced by Rigoberto Rodriguez.

Synopsis: Trapped in an island. Hunted by the undead. Armed with a slingshot.

A dormant alien virus has been unleashed on a desolated island of the Philippines and the only hope of the survivors are in the hands of two graveyard thieves. Trapped on an island and left with nothing to defend themselves, the grave bandits must use their wit to win the battle against a swarm of flesh eating ghouls.

"I came on board 'The Grave Bandits' project in June of 2011. I submitted the last cue for the score sometime mid-October of 2012, via an email at around 3:30 AM late one night. At the time, director Tyrone Acierto was in the Philippines, getting closer to wrapping up the project, so I figured that if I waited to send it until morning, he wouldn’t get it until later that night because of the time difference. So I opted to send it late at night so they’d receive it during their afternoon to save some time. Besides, I’m used to working late into the night every now and then (a bad habit I picked up in college).

"Everything that happened between my first meeting with Tyrone and that last night when I submitted the last audio file is kind of a blur now, but I know there were many, many more nights of working late. And I know a lot of musical themes and film scenes were stuck in my head for days, but I think the end result was worth it.

"The film itself has about an hour-and-a-half of music, which isn't bad for a film that's an hour and fifty minutes long! Writing the music was challenging, but after all that, cutting away bits and pieces to turn that into a CD-sized album was another challenge in itself. Hopefully that means that the material that made the cut really 'earned' it's place in this album. I hope everyone that listens agrees. Thank you and enjoy!"
