You' ll play this one over and over - smart writing, masterful performances
Very enjoyable listening and a great peek into the musical mind of this talented composer/arranger/performer. You gotta love "One for the Bud" - written for Rimbach's son. It has great energy and begins with a so cool sax/piano flirtation - rhythmically and harmonically circling each other until they converge on the unison line - smart, lighthearted writing. Solo sections soar. Little Lady is dreamy - solos are constantly imaginative and engaging. Piano is "right there". Normally I'm not a big fan of sax over sax, but Rimbach's unaccompanied ensemble treatment of "Old Folks" just grabbed me and I hummed it all day. It's sweet and warm with great ensemble lines. Strike Pay combines a mysterious minor harmonic line with a tenor solo that reaches right out of the box. I admit I played this one over and over - it could have lasted 10 or 15 minutes and I would have been happy.

Vince Rimbach is a true talent - this CD not only works for sax players and saxophone fans, but has great "touch" with the casual jazz listener. You won't regret this one.

Keep "Saying it", Vince.
