Album Notes
Rio by Night’s self-titled release marks not only the first recorded musical project of songwriter/frontwoman, Britt MacLeod, but also the birth of the band itself. MacLeod worked with Vancouver-based producer/musician, Andrew Rasmussen (Hey Ocean!, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dave Phillips) to shape the 6 song EP. This completely independent project was recorded and mixed in Vancouver at The Cabinet Studios and Vertical Studios respectively; mastered at Sterling Sound in NYC. Unconventional song structures, dark, well-crafted poetry, and unique instrumentation come together to deliver the themes of self-reflection, disillusionment, and heartbreak. It is a pop record with bite.

Rio by Night has now evolved into a 4 piece collaborative band. Founding duo Britt MacLeod (songwriter, lead singer, ukulele) and Alex Hauka (cello, vocals) have found an inspiring new fusion of sound with new members Ben Whipple (bass), and Mike Lauder (drums). A full-length album is in the works.

“The songs have a charming familiarity that makes them immediately palatable. Britt MacLeod’s vocals are dynamic providing both visceral and more tender moments throughout the EP.”
~David Beckingham of Hey Ocean!
