Album Notes
Hailing from New Zealand: World music artist,Riqi Harawiras style is a Maori infused blend of Reggae, pop, tribal and western popular music.Riqi Harawira has a sound like no other,an innovative hybrid of sounds from around the globe.
Through a unique combination of acoustic guitar, vocals,Tibetan throat singing and a number of traditional Maori instruments (Nga taonga puoro), Riqi creates a tribal pop sound, blending traditional indigenous Maori music with pop, funk and the reggae idiom.

Previously the lead guitarist for New Zealand rock band Dead Flowers, Riqi first went solo with the release of his 2012 version
of `Gutter Black”featuring Dave McArtney and Sir T.

Following closely on the heels of this release Riqi released his 1st original single ‘Greenstone and Gold’; a magical song that truly captures the essence of being a Kiwi.

In addition to creating sweet and soulful music, Riqi is also a passionate campaigner for human rights, Riqi has been a keen advocate against sexual violence, seen most prevalently in his involvement with Men Against Sexual Violence (MASSIVE) Hikoi.A 440 km walk from The Auckland harbour bridge to Cape Reinga, for which he provided entertainment over 17 days led by Labour mp Kelvin Davis.

Riqi has released another single ‘Goddess’, a tribute to women as divine feminine spirit and is a gift to the’Its not ok’campaign raising awareness around domestic violence in NZ.’Goddess’was played during Riqi’s recent concert series,‘Melody in Merlot’.

Riqi has released the last single 'Wairua' of his album 'Sound of the long white cloud'
Wairua refers to the soul or spirit.
The Maori of New Zealand believe when anyone passes away their Wairua leaves through a sacred portal at Te rerenga wairua, which is located at the very top of the north island of New Zealand (Aotearoa) as seen on the cover.

Finally Riqi will has just released his new album, Sound of the Long White Cloud at The Hotel Clevedon with Clevedon oysters to a rapturous audience, the launch was well received and Clevedon oysters sold a whopping 3500 oysters.Sound of the long white cloud is a 10 track ensemble of traditional indigenous Maori waiata blended with modern pop, reggae, funk and sounds from around the globe.
Riqi is part of the expanding family of ethnic music subgenres under the world music umbrella. Not content with one genre and not linear in feel, being born bi cultural ,Riqis view of the world is not singular in mind and not polar in music.
