Sa Leaba Le Groucho

by Rís

This is the fifth album from the Conamara rockers & sees them continue with their well crafted template of riff based ear worms, clever politically themed set-pieces, as well as anthems based on life experience in Ireland. It does not disappoint.

Album Notes
Rís also known as Rís Ceol have been making music since 2003. The band originally started as a solo outfit set up by lead singer and guitarist Breandán O'hEaghra. Big Bren published two albums in the vein, Heileó Campello and An Fear Nár Mhair Ach Soicind. The music was ground breaking within Irish language circles and brought something different to the landscape of the early 2000's. In 2013, the band was joined by O'hEaghra's brother Richie, lead guitar and vocals and old school friend PJ McDonagh on drums.

Later that year, well known Wicklow musician Pat O'Neill joined Rís and a new sound was born.
The band released Yahú, produced by Offaly native Aidan Cunningham and featured iconic tunes such as Purgadóir https://youtu.be/Rf-uOXWdLVw Aon Phingin Agam https://youtu.be/XVwdh7c1w6o and Tí Jude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fepa7L1gQD0

Rís played CastlePalooza festival that year as well as An Puball Gaeilge in the Electric Picnic. Gigs followed in Dublin, Belfast and Galway with the band due to play in Munich but had to cancel due to a terror attack on the city.

In November 2017, Rís delivered again with Aon Seans Ar Riot (Any chance of a riot). This album saw the band develop their sound once more with the first song off the album Ooh La La setting the tone nicely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5TrJ-63WUE and backing it up with classic rock songs such as Cam Le Corrán (Bent as a sickle) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQhT-J6IfJ0 and frenetic Ronnachaí https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hlqxd9JOj0

Rís are a unique band that are well worth checking out live and online when possible.
