Exquisite vocals combine with gorgeous folk harp for a return to ancient times. Passionate, emotionally robust performances of music from Wales, Ireland, Spain, England, Italy, Scotland, and Israel make this unusual CD perfect for traditional music fans.

Album Notes
At the time of this writing, I'm in the midst of my twenty-first year with the Georgia Renaissance Festival. It was there that I discovered a passionate adoration of Celtic music, which on this CD is rounded out by traditional pieces from Spain, Israel, England, and Wales as well. I have loved honing these pieces in front of several thousand people each day (roughly twenty at a time), because it's abundantly clear when a piece is moving my audience, or when it's not quite working yet. I am close enough to hear their breathing change if they are moved, to see their faces glow with pleasure, to see their eyes get misty, or to notice if they are distracted by something more interesting. That kind of immediate and sustained feedback is a gift, and this CD features some of the pieces that have become clear audience favorites.

In my fifth or sixth year out there, a friend asked if she could trade me harp lessons (which she taught) for voice lessons (which I taught). I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a little bit of instrumental knowledge under my belt (I played trumpet, a little piano, and some ethnic percussion, but nothing in the string family), so I agreed. I had no idea how deeply I'd fall for the harp, nor how much it would become part of my identity.

In addition to playing at the Renaissance Festival, I also regularly play and compose original pieces for the Atlanta Shakespeare Company. I've been a full-time member of the administrative staff and acting company there for 11 years, and I frequently get to Music Direct some of the most talented musicians in Atlanta, using some of the most beautiful music ever created for Shakespeare's works (mostly those by Clarke Weigle or Bo Gaiason). In fact, Traveling Music from this CD was one I composed for our production of Comedy of Errors, and I was lucky enough to get the actor who played the piece with me in the show to record his ukulele part for the CD.

Some of the things folks have said about my music are:

"As a Music Producer, I seek out talent that can provide more than just the right notes. I'm looking to capture an emotion and create lasting performances. That extra spark is something magical that only a select few can deliver. Piles of smiles and always enthusiastic, Rivka does more than just light up the room, she brightens everything she touches." - Brian Preston, Creative Producer

"Rivka is amazing! What an incredible voice in a variety of styles." - Michael Levine, Independent Music Professional

"Rivka is a multi-talented individual, whose musical talents far surpass expectation!" - Troy Heard, Producing Artistic Director at Onyx Theater

I really hope you enjoy what you hear. I have thoroughly enjoyed arranging and recording these beautiful songs!

This beautiful CD is well named--"the luminous one" perfectly describes Rivka Levin's voice and spirit. Her clear soprano and the crystalline sound of her harp complement each other perfectly. Most of the selections are from the British Isles, but there is one in Italian, one in Spanish, and one in Hebrew (a setting of Ruth 1:16-17--the "whither thou goest I shall go" section, which is often read at weddings). Five of the tracks are instrumentals, which really show off Levin's sensitive and masterful harp playing; I love all of these, but I think my favorite is the Welsh tune "Llydaw." Of the vocal selections, my favorite may be "Star of the County Down," which Levin infuses with a sense of gentle longing that I have not heard in any other interpretation of this song. "La Luminosa" is a lovely CD that will appeal equally to fans of the harp, Celtic music, and/or Renaissance fairs--and, above all, to anyone in search of beauty.

A gorgeous dress for the senses!
For the ears and the heart, the angelic strings and voice of Rivka will be a lovely addition to your day. Whether traditional or original, her love of making music never fails to fill her listeners with delight. Please, please, please - listen once and you will fall in love with the beauty of her music!

Simply Beautiful
I heard her perform these live at the Georgia Renaissance Festival & was so excited to learn this CD was available! Doubly so when I saw the song list. The Water is Wide is a special joy. Her voice is gorgeous, clear, and enchanting. You can listen again and again. Highly recommend!
