ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
HONEY B
Sometimes someone is just so sweet you have to sing about it! This is a funky take on the classic Bo Diddley riff with a pop-sounding chorus. Keepin’ it simple and sweet.

Vocals: Rob Bender
All instruments: Rob Bender

Honey B, she knows I got her covered
Cause her heart’s, the sweetest thing I have discovered
Yeah Honey B, yeah…

Workin’ hard, got some sugar to deliver
Not afraid, her sting don’t make me shiver

And when the world, tries to get me down
I can turn to her, for comfort
Tell you now, what she mean to me
Life’s so sweet – yeah sweet…

…with Honey B, she got a treat down in the hollow
And where she goes, I know I want to follow

Words of love, they may be true
But words alone are incomplete
A taste of honey, is something I need
She’s helpin’ me, be me
Honey B

And when the world, tries to get me down
I can turn to her, for comfort
Tell you now, what she mean to me
Life’s so sweet – yeah rsweet…

Honey B
She’s my honey bee
Life’s a treat, with a Honey B
Honey, Honey, Honey B

DEAL WITH THE MOON
In Haruki Murakami’s novel “IQ84,” he explores a world where two moons signal an extraordinary alternate reality for his main characters – a place that looks normal enough, but is far from it. I can’t even imagine having to deal with two moons! One is bad enough. I’ve always had the feeling that the moon, especially the full moon, is up to no good. I can’t really explain it, but usually things don’t go well for me during a full moon. Maybe it’s just superstition, but moonlight simply doesn’t feel right. My song is influenced by Mose Allison’s simple, cool stylings, but also takes a musical cue or two from the soulful jazz organ groups of the 60s and 70s. – the foot pedal bass line and the understated rhythm guitar parts in particular. Ron Boustead’s man-sized vocal cooks to perfection here.

Well I got a dilemma
And I want it to knock off
But can’t get it to drop off
And it’s drivin’ me right off
I feel trapped by the full moon
I can’t dance to its blue tune
Been a change in the pressure
Old man moon’s an aggressor

I gotta deal with the moon
It keeps me up all night
I gotta deal with the moon
Something’s just not right

You know my girlfriend left me
Was trampled by a mob
And the moon was still full
When I done lost my job

Everywhere there’s entwined in pale moonlight
I hear laughter from the shadows, and it’s just not right
I know I might sound crazy, but I don’t go out
There’s a spell on me, can’t get past my doubt

I gotta deal with the moon
That’s the name of the tune
I gotta deal with the moon
Not a minute too soon

Gotta deal with the moon
Yeah make no mistake
Gotta deal with the moon
Gotta put on the brakes

Everywhere there’s entwined in pale moonlight
I hear laughter from the shadows, and it’s just not right
I know I might sound crazy, but I don’t go out
There’s a spell on me, can’t get past my doubt
(Why oh why)

Well I’m singing a b-bop
But it feels like the d-bop
Cause my soul thinks it’s re-bop
But my brain’s doin’ hip-hop

I gotta deal with the moon
All night long
I gotta deal with the moon
Gotta sing my song

Such a mean old moon
Comin’ out too soon
Trapped all night long
Something just feels wrong

It’s a sliver aggressor
Yeah, just too much pressure
Yeah, gonna deal with the moon
Gotta deal with the moon
Gotta deal with the moon

I WANNA TAKE YOU HOME
There are so many abandoned pets left on the street, picked up and taken to shelters. The lucky few get adopted and find a new home – a second lease on life. But the majority spend there time caged up until the day comes when they are simply killed to make room for more abandoned pets. Not all animal care facilities are “kill” shelters, but there are so many shelters where a stray pet doesn’t have long to live if it’s not adopted right away. So if you’re thinking about getting a pet please consider going to a shelter and rescuing an animal that needs your help.

Look at you with your head down
Like you’ve done something’ wrong
There’s no justice where you’ve come from
Now I hear you ain’t got that long

How they treatin’ you buddy?
Have you had enough to eat?
How long were you runnin’
All alone on the street?

I can see your heart is broken
And you got no peace of mind
You got lost and turned around
You’re one they’ll never find

How they treatin’ you buddy?
Have you had enough to eat?
How long were you runnin’
All alone on the street?

I wanna take you home

THE BARON
There once was a frolicking noble
Who partied in drag to be ogled
He tied up his guests
But got spanked with some zest
And expired while dazed and immobile

So much pleasure, hides the pain
Lube & latex, ropes & chains
He’s the man, the Baron’s domain
Red blood spills, from his blue-blood veins

(He’ll tie you up)
Got a penchant for some S&M stuff
A pharmaceutical apartment?
Oh my yes
(ecstasy and pleasure)

He’s rough & ready, against the grain
Fishnet stockings, looking for the pain
Just can’t wait, to get gagged & bound
Compulsory spanking, you’re doin’ the town

(He’ll tie you up)
So tight it makes you wonder who you are:
A product of your chromosomes, or just a top-shelf bar
(ecstasy and pleasure)

Little miss muffet, sittin’ in the room
Hair up in curlers, eyes like raccoon
Anything goes, look like a star
The Baron needs you, so come as you are

(He’ll tie you up)
Got a penchant for that S&M stuff
(He’ll tie you down)
You’ll need to carve some new meat, to hide that scar
Someday that Baron
He gonna go too far
(death by misadventure)
(suffer for your pleasure) …is that who you are?
(suffer for your pleasure)

Got a fun room, with a recessed rubberized floor
Multi-colored playthings, hand-out at the door
Got a golden-plated hot tub, it’s all full of milk
There’s lubricants and vodka, satin & silk
(suffer for your pleasure)

ALL I WANT
All I Want is the story of a love that just doesn’t want to give up. Sometimes we fail in love and walk away, but other times, for whatever reason, something inside us just can’t let go of the other person and the stong feelings we have for them. Even when it’s obvious to everyone else that it’s over, sometimes we believe in trying it one more time. It’s a sad and passionate situation, but very real, very delicate, and very strong. J’nae Fincannon brings all that emotion to her vocal performance here. You can’t help but believe that maybe there is a chance for a second time around.

What if I told you
I know I was wrong
You know you’re my weakness
Still singin’ your song
Where memories belong

Cause all I want -- is you, baby baby
I’m missing your love right now

Could you believe me
This time around
Let me embrace you
Don’t make a sound
See what I’ve found
My on the ground

All I want

Time won’t let me, forget that you played me
Though you hurt me, you’re still the one I see
I wanna be where you are
You’re still my star

All I want – is you

What if I told you
You’re in my dreams
My morning sunlight
That ‘s how it seems
Still in my dreams

And all I want
All I need
All I want – is you

Once you turn it on, it's hard to turn off.
"Deal With the Moon". It's brand new, but with a history: band-based music, the kind of stuff that real live players make -- with nothing fake about it…Rob Bender pulls together rock, pop, and folk. Then he weaves in a little jazz. Finally there's that spritz of soul that keeps peeking out from beneath it all; not just in terms of style, but in his music's terrifically real FEEL…"Deal With the Moon". It's music made from music's elements. And once you turn it on, it's hard to turn off.
