ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Robert Ross graduated in 1979 with honors from the Boston Conservatory of Music, where he studied guitar with Walter Stanul, counterpoint with Hugo Norden, and composition with Joel Kabakov. Later, he performed incidental music for theatrical productions in the Los Angeles area. In L.A., he met Jim Gordon, composer, inventor, computer programmer, and studio musician. As a result of their discussions, Gordon built a 256-key synthesizer that played in a variety of microtonal scales using just intonation. For next ten years, Ross applied Pythagorean theories of math and music in his exploration of new music.

In the early ‘90’s, he moved from Los Angeles to Taiwan where he lived for eight years. Since returning to the United States, he had been teaching Mandarin with his wife, Chiu-mei Shih, in Ashland, Oregon, where he performs guitar locally. Robert Ross, Guitarist, is his first CD. At present, he is preparing his book, Breaking the Harmonic Code, for publication.
