Album Notes
I had the opening banjo riff for this song lying around literally for years. Then one day I was staring out at the gray fog and drizzle that had been hanging around for days... weeks... months (??)... that's St. Petersburg's climate for you. I started humming along with the riff, a sort of Winnie-the-Pooh "complaining song":

" Gray. Another gray day. Just like yesterday." Aha! This could be a song!

That's how it started. That's how it stopped until winter set in and the woodstove fired up. One evening after dinner at the end of a hard-at-work week, my wife and I were sitting in front of it finishing our wine. The blaze was waning and I said "I'll toss on another chunk... pour another round of that there tasty vintage" (or words to that effect). Another "Aha!" moment on the way to the woodpile. The rest was just the craft of songwriting.

Well, OK, yeah, there might have been some hoochie-coochie involved at some point.

I will donate all of my income from sales of this song to Médecins Sans Frontières (www.msf.org) a.k.a "Doctors Without Borders". MSF delivers emergency medical aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.

MSF's medical professionals could be earning a comfortable living most anywhere in the world. They choose instead to serve those most in need, in the worst of conditions, often at personal risk to themselves. For less then the price of a coffee or a beer you can help me support this amazing organization. Thanks for your support!
