Rob has been studying music since age 5, starting with his first instrument, violin.

At age 9, he added cornet, and later at 12, he began playing the electric bass.

His first professional gig was at age 14 and since then, bass has proved to be the dominant instrument despite being a vocal major in college.

In 1989, Rob received a B.S. in Music Education from West Chester University.

This led to many musical contacts and the inception of his school music teaching.

Throughout the early 90's, Rob spent much of his performance time with "Voice of Reason", a popular world beat band, which released 3 albums and shared the stage with such acts as The Wailers, Third World, Judy Mowat, and others.

Rob also took on the role of bass player in the house trio at the Capricorn Lounge in South Philadelphia, along with drummer Lucky Thompson, and began to seriously shed on the jazz standard repertoire.

It was at this time that he bought his first (and only) upright bass.

In 1994, Rob took the spot as house bass player for Wilmington's premiere jazz club, "Bourbon Street Cafe".

He held this chair until the club closed in 1999.

Currently, Rob has been freelancing a great deal in the Philadelphia Megalopolis Area and can be regularly seen in his supporting role with many of the area's top jazz musicians.

With the release of "My Bassic Hats", Rob Swanson plans on spreading his own flavor of multi-influenced jazz in clubs and festivals throughout the area.

equipment list: Rob Swanson plays a1984 Fender Jazz, a 1990 Roscoe 5 Fretless, and a 1940 Kay Upright.

Electric bass amplification is a Trace Elliot Head into a Bag End 210 xd and a Bag End 15 w/ co ax horn.

Upright amplification is an Acoustic Image Contra.

Rob uses GHS Bass Boomers, D'Addario XL half wounds, and D'Addario Helicore Pizzicato Series.

The sound is occasionally mutated through a Korg Tone Works Bass Pedal.

I listen to Rob Swanson at Chrìs Jazz Cafe in Phili on March 18 2008. I only listen to some plays from "Terra Soul Project", but I enjoied so much his music that I took both Rob's CDs to Italy. I suggest to buy Rob's CDs. "Ballad for Sonny boy" from "My Bassic Hats" is by far one of my favourite plays and one of the most listened.
