Beginning Again

by Rod MacDonald

Modern folk-rock at its best, this collection of acoustic-guitar based tunes with a killer band of top session players seems written right out of today's headlines, but one listen makes it clear these songs are built to last.

Album Notes
Rod MacDonald had a distinguished career in New York's Greenwich Village from the mid-1970s to mid 1990s, headlining the clubs with a series of popular bands, touring the US, Europe and Australia, writing numerous songs covered by other artists. Since moving to south Florida, he's been named Best Local Acoustic Artist and one of the Ten Greatest South Florida Folksingers by New TImes, one of Ten Magnificent Musicians of Palm Beach County by the Palm Beach Post, and has released six cds of thought-provoking, critically-acclaimed songs. "Beginning Again," his 12th solo cd, takes on the political and personal with equal aplomb, from the elegaic tribute to New York of "The Magic City" to the straight-to-the-point satire of corruption in "Deep Bullshit Blues." The simple but excellent backup is by drummer Steve Holley (formerly of Wings and the Joe Cocker Band), keyboardist Pete Levin (known for his work with Miles Davis, Paul Simon and countless other top artists), bassist Mark Dann (who tours with MacDonald and is the principal bassist of the Fast Folk/Smithsonian collection) and backup vocalist Kirsten Maxwell (winner of numerous singer-songwriting competitions at major folk festivals). Though the pop radio monopoly won't play music with this kind of social awareness, this cd is sure to be a fan favorite.
