ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In 1989 I was living in the inner city suburb of Glebe, in Sydney, Australia. My first child was on his/her way, and I wanted to capture this amazing experience through music.

Each of the tracks on this album was inspired by some event or experience in the months leading up to Christopher's birth, or the months immediately after.

The album was called "Glebe" because that was where I was living at the time. It was originally released in 1990 - receiving airplay on radio in Australia.

This re-release includes all of the original tracks, plus a selection of bonus ones. These include early demo versions of some of the tracks on the album, and a few bonus tracks that were not included due to space limitations on the original album.

- Purple Dawn - After Words: a track written after a chat, following a long, difficult night; the sunrise sky was awesome.
- Jacaranda: written when the Jacaranda were in full, glorious flower all around Sydney.
- Recollections: thinking back over nine months of wonderful new experiences.
- Blue Gum Forest: written after a trip to the mighty Blue Gum Forest, in the Grose Valley of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park.
- Rosemary's Empty Box: a friend of a friend had a beautiful empty wooden box; I don't know why it was empty!
- Restless Nights: as anyone who has been expecting a child will know.
- Christopher: written before he was born, and originally known as Thumper, because he used to kick a lot in the womb and we didn't know whether he would be a boy or girl.
- Glow Worm Glen: written after a visit a walk down Glow Worm Glen in the Morton National Park at Bundanoon, NSW, Australia; starting at sunset, it was dark when I reached the cave to see the eerie, dancing lights.
- Home Coming: written after Christopher came home for the first time from Paddington hospital.
- Doro-Mikim-Ko: an invented name, created by re-assigning letters to the name of an author in a book I read during this time; I can't remember the original author's name.
- October: simply a point in time, about half way through the pregnancy.
- Waiting For The Day: getting close to the due date.
- The Ancient Castle: a track that grew organically; when it was finished I imagined the climb up towards a magical, enchanted, ancient castle.
- Seven Days: written seven days before the due date.
- Prelude: this was going to be the first track on the album, but I was never fully happy with the recording.
- The Night Before: the night before Christopher was born - I like the drama and turmoil that this track captures, but felt it didn't fit with the more restful mood of the original album.
- Doro-Mikim-Ko: the original, piano version of this track.
- Blue Gum Forest: an early draft version.
- Rosemary's Empty Box: an early draft version.
- October: an early draft version.
- Thumper: an early draft version, written before I knew whether it was going to be a boy or a girl.
- The WIshing Tree: a track that didn't make it to the album. Wishing Trees (also known as May Bushes, Fairy Trees, or Rag Trees) are hawthorn trees where people tie ribbons to ask blessings from the local saints, deities, or wee folk.
- Blackwattle Bay: another track that didn't make it to the original album due to lack of space. Blackwattle Bay is located to the south–east of Glebe Island, and east of Rozelle Bay, on Sydney Harbour, in New South Wales, Australia.
