ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Anything Goes is Smith's sixth album and first since 2009, and features some of his best songs, including the title track and the single, "Raining On A Sunny Day," featuring Rami Jaffee from The Foo Fighters. Produced by Smith and AJ Downing at Downing's Charkansas Studio in Wimberley, TX, these 10 songs flow beautifully covering a wide gamut of topics both personal and public. A fluid yet very diverse set of sounds, the album balances dreamy shuffles and ballads with hard-rock, folk, country and roots-flavored rockers. Smith tackles timely topics of the day with the splendid "House Of Cards," "Empty" and the title track, and gets personal on revelatory numbers such as "Aim" and "Leaving It All Behind." The propulsive "Empty" even has some 80s Minnesota feel to it, a driving rocker with strong lyrics. Character pieces like the opening barn-burner, "Can't Wait For Another Day" and the jumping closing track, "Down At Juniors" make for engaging and high energy modern country-rock story songs.

Smith plays guitars, bass and harmonica on the recording and is joined by several very talented friends. Providing stellar performances are Kim Deschamps and Andre Moran, who both play tasty solos and other sonic pleasures that elevate each song. Deschamps (Midland, Cory Morrow, Cowboy Junkies) plays lap steel, pedal steel and dobro and Moran contributes gorgeous, dreamy guitar parts reminiscent of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. Singer Noelle Hampton provides her beautiful and seamless harmonies and drummer Jimmy Spencer is rock solid with his groove-heavy and creative drumming. Rami Jaffee, keyboardist for The Foo Fighters (and founding member of the Wallflowers), plays the spacey and stellar vibes on "Raining On A Sunny Day."
