ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Features 7 originals and 1 "cover" (a Latin fusion big band version of Wayne Shorter's Palladium") powered by Vazquez' NYC based Tentet; recorded February '87 by Peter Denenberg. remixed by Paul Wickliffe. This recording was featured almost daily on NYC radio stations WBGO & WQCD in the spring & summer of 1988.

“ **** - Drummer/composer Roland Vazquez remains true to his musical vision on The Tides of Time , a Latin-flavored offering with strong horn charts, percolating percussion work, irresistible grooves, and dynamic solos by a string of special guests…Vazquez most ambitious piece is a cinematic suite which shifts moods and colors, going from big band explosion to a scaled down quartet.” (Bill Milkowski, Downbeat, October ’89)

"Drummer /composer's handsome 1979 album on GRP (Urban Ensemble) was a decade ahead of its time. Today's (THE TIDES OF TIME) tasty originals carry more jazz and Latin highlights ... his big band arrangement of Weather Report's "Palladium" is a winner." (Jazz Picks, Billboard Magazine, August '88)
