Album Notes
Woody Sparks music is a combination of things. Influences range from blues and jazz to Broadway, with shades of folk, funk, latin and classical thrown in. The vocals are honest and never sentimental, as if edged with fine sandpaper, while the styles come from contemporary urban, world beat, acoustic funk, and southern country rock, all mixed together in simple piano, guitar or band arrangements that get right to the point.
The songs deal with love, of course: love declared, love lost, mystic love, and there are also social commentaries and exhortations to kindness and consideration, delivered with an assurance and ease that bring to mind many recent and older classic performers like Randy Newman, Tom Waits, and Rufus Wainright.
Woody Sparks cruises the main highway of popular music with side trips along the many interesting and vital side roads along the way.
