Original funky world jazz, composed on the fly by a hard-workin' professional bassist and performed by top notch musicians from the secret underground Bloomington IN music scene. We had a ton of fun with this project and hope you enjoy the music!

Album Notes
I'm Ron Kadish. I'm known as a music publicist. (Disclaimer, the firm I work for, rock paper scissors, is CDBaby's publicity firm, but another of the firm's publicists handles them. I can tell you that the CDBaby people are all awesome!)

Anyway, in a former life I studied at the IU Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington IN. I took composing lessons with David Baker and studied classical and jazz bass playing with Bruce Bransby. A lot of the cats on this record were either fellow students or my professors. I've toured all over the US with various jazz and rock bands, and spent some time in Jerusalem playing in the Jerusalem Symphony (that was even another lifetime ago). In fact, The Edge of Calm comes from my Middle Eastern experiences.

It's hard, when you're an adult and have a family and work full time and still put in miles on the road with bands that you're just getting paid to play with, to get into the studio with your own stuff. A lot of these tunes sat around for a long time and only got dusted off at occasional gigs around the Midwest and at jam sessions. In 2015 I realized I was approaching 50 and felt like it was time to catalog some of the things I've done. So I started calling friends and putting together recording sessions. The first one, in which we recorded The Edge of Calm, was in April of 2015; Groovi Sandi and The Fun Never Stops! were the last tunes recorded, in April 2017.

My wonderfully generous friend Jake Belser happens to own and operate a world-class recording studio called Primary Sound Studios (google it). He gave up many Saturdays to help me get this stuff down. Jake's one of the fellow students I referred to above, and every session we did was like a mini-school reunion.

I played a concert in 2009 with a few of the guys on the album; on the set list was A Rose for Viola, then an instrumental written for my daughter Viola Rose. Janiece was in the audience and offered to write words for it- needless to say I'm very happy I took her up on that offer. She wrote these lyrics practically overnight and totally nailed the whole feel and vibe of the song.

Groovi Sandi is for my partner Sandi, without whom life would be incomplete. She's pretty groovy.

The cast:
Ron Kadish, double bass, electric bass, guitars, synths, slide whistle, funny noises, and compositions
Jake Belser, co-producer & engineer
Dan Deckard, drums
Joe Donnelly, ney, tenor sax, bari sax
Jonathan Elmer, trombone

Joe Galvin, shakere
Pat Harbison, trumpet
Curtis Cantwell Jackson, backing vocals
Janiece Jaffe, vocals
Nate Johnson, tenor sax & flute
Matt Romy, piano
Victor Santoro, oud & kanoon
Robert Stright, vibraphone, backing vocals

We do hope you enjoy the music. We had a blast making this album!
