Album Notes
Ron’s debut CD, “Haunted Heart”, is the basis for his third cabaret show of the same name. The show debuted at the Duplex, in New York and was remounted at Indigo in his home town of Washington, DC, proving that cabaret is alive all over the country. “Haunted Heart” features a variety of standards and new works from the Great American Songbook presented in the contemporary cabaret style. Ron’s music director and arranger for “Haunted Heart” is the multiple MAC , Backstage Bistro, and GLAMA award winning Rick Jensen. Rick has been music director for such greats as Liz Callaway, Jeannie McDonald, Tovah Feldshuh, Lina Koutrakos (who was the director of Ron’s show), and the late Nancy Lamott.

“Obviously, a marvelous voice” – Andrea Marcovicci

“Haunted Heart” contains Great American Songbook treasures like “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, heart-string tugging jewels as “One More Walk Around the Garden” , “What You’d Call A Dream” and a medley of “Blackberry Winter” and “Autumn”. For some fun, Ron gives us “Sway” and taps into his musical theatre background with “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat” and “Feed The Birds”. He carries on the cabaret tradition by presenting some oft’ over-looked (or even worse, forgotten) greats such as “Hold My Hand”, “Strange Sensation”, “I Have But One Heart”, and, of course, the title track of the CD, the evocative, “Haunted Heart”.

“A commanding presence” – Sally Mayes.

Ron previously performed two one-man cabaret shows “Love Comes ‘Round”, which opened the 2003 Source Theatre Cabaret Series and “Light On My Feet”, debuting at the Warehouse Theater, both in Washington, DC. Also in the DC metro area, Ron has performed at Mr. Henry’s, in the Monday Night at the National series, in numerous Arts on Foot festivals, at Culture Cool at the Atlas Arts Center, and the Artomatic Arts Festival. Ron originated the roles of Richard Bellingham in the opera THE SCARLET LETTER, which premiered in Baltimore in 2002 at the Carver Center for Arts, and Ron in the musical revue “Googling My Ex”, words and music by the acclaimed composer/songwriter Jill Leger.

My Uncle Harry and I consider "Hold My Hand" a special favorite, and it's funny how a simple tune can strengthen a friendship between an uncle and a niece. Ron Squeri does right by this lovely and rarely heard song, lending it new resonance and lilt. This CD is already on its way to my uncle in L.A.
"Hold My Hand" is just one of the cuts on this marvelous CD, but it illustrates how Ron can take a song you know and polish it up with his own special luster. I'd heard "One More Walk Around the Garden" dozens of times, but it wasn't until I heard Ron's version that it came alive with meaning and melancholy. And I'd never given much thought to "Feed the Birds," from "Mary Poppins," but when I heard Ron sing it, his beautiful voice and interpretation made it sound almost holy, resounding with the meaning of life.
Squeri has a redoubtable emotional range--soon after his "Blackberry Winter"/"Autumn" breaks your heart his rousing "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat" puts it back together again.
Altogether a lovely CD--to be appreciated by the lover, dreamer, philosopher and gangster in us all.

I love Ron Squeri’s CD Haunted Heart. Listening to Ron sing, my heart swells with emotion. Ron’s voice is warm and passionate. His interpretations are beautiful and inspiring. The song list will by turns make you want to get up and dance, sit down and listen intently, or find your special someone for a loving embrace. Rick Jensen's fantastic arrangements and accompaniment complete this lovely work of art.

Ron's CD is a true gift to his listeners. The song selection is a wonderful mix of familiar, less familiar, and gems done in a new way. The pacing of the collection makes listening a wonderful experience--song selection, arrangement and sequence are all exactly right. Perhaps a minor point, but I also really appreciate the care with which the CD is packaged and presented--nothing sloppy or casual, a very nice design. "What You'd Call a Dream" moves me each time I hear Ron's interpretation--and I'd never really cared that much about the song before. Thank you Ron--I am so pleased to own this CD.

Ron's clear, crisp and heart-felt vocals and emotional interpretations make every tune a gem to listen to. The arrangements are great and the selection of songs is priceless. I especially adore Perhaps Love, What You'd Call a Dream and Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat - a great, great addition to any cabaret collection!!
