ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Roots Natty is more than a band is the name of a struggle, a struggle to keep reggae music true to its roots of Rastafari".

Max Rivera formed the band back in the summer of 1995 after relocating in Puerto Rico from Costa Rica where he escaped years before, looking for a more natural way of life and closeness with nature and culture. After being called by the Most High to play reggae music he came forward to his native island of Puerto Rico to share the teachings of His Majesty with his brothers and sisters of his island.

Roots Natty became well known all around the island in months time and by the next year the band was sharing the bill with a band like Black Uhuru captivating the local audience and gaining respect in the island for the band performances. The following years Roots Natty opened for acts like; The Gladiators, Eek-A-Mouse, Pablo Moses and others gaining even more popularity amongst the youths and reggae lovers all around the island.

In 2000 Max Rivera made a big effort and decided to continue the work and struggle after the departure of all the members of the band and went to Jamaica to record the first studio effort "The Living Dread Rasta Resiste" with the skilled production hand of Earl "Chinna" Smith and the engineering of Errol Brown. That was a big lesson for Max with the old school of reggae. The album was released in 2001 three days after 9/11 and imediatedly was internationally acclaimed by roots reggae Djs who heard the classic roots style almost extinct for those days from someone they would not expect.

By February 2002 the album got played so intensely that got in to the top 10 played reggae albums in the CMJ Music Network in the U.S. behind artists like Junior Kelly and Capleton, later that year making the first tour to the U.S. by appearing at the Monterey Bay Reggae Fest and other festivals like; Fairfax World Music Festival, Renegade Festival and the Bend Fall Festival in Oregon. During that same year Max teamed up with Uzziel Levvi who had come previously to the island with Pablo Moses, both prepared the Zioniers band for the road and laid the foundation for the works that would come in the following years.

In 2003 opening for The Wailers in Puerto Rico leaving a show imprinted in the mind of all that night, the show was recorded to testify the high level of Roots Natty on stage and will be released some time soon under the Roots Natty Records label.

A recording studio, the development of the Roots Natty Records label and the production of Roots Natty 's second album "Mystery Babylon Fuego al Dragon" took most of the efforts from 2003 till 2005. Now in the 2005 Roots Natty will be embarking on a world tour to celebrate the release of this new highly controversial album, and supporting the releases of artists in the label like: Malika Madremana, Uzziel Levvi, Rasta Dom, Binghi I, Isek and others who collaborate with Roots Natty.

Nuff will be heard from Roots Natty in years to come not only as artist but also as band, label, albums and a record company as an entity of roots rasta reggae music.
