Album Notes
Songs of Frost and Fire is as welcome as a shot of sloe gin in front of the fire. It is mature, but brave, intensive yet familiar, fun but Cecil Sharp authoritative’ Rod Hancox, Somerset County Gazette

Roots Quartet present a collection of magical songs for midwinter. A celebration of 500 years of the tradition of making merry at the dark time of the year. A time when the re-born sun is welcomed at the Solstice and everyone seeks the cup of friendship, and love, and the glow and comfort of firelight.

Yvette, Michelle and Bronwen weave magic with their stunning harmonies and delicious arrangements of songs from England, Corsica and their own fair hands. 'Robin and Marian' has been described as the centrepiece of this album a romantic ballad set to become a folk classic, narrowly eclipsing the left-field harmonies of 'Peace of Night' as the show case track. Roots Quartet write, they sing, they tour and founder member Abbie Lathe is currently working with Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span).

'Harmonies. We adore them. We experiment with them, we teach them at harmony singing workshops to hundreds of people, they drive our music. We love the un-accompanied voice, surely the finest instrument on the planet.'Yvette

'We hope you enjoy our music, it has given us enormous pleasure in the making of it and we just can’t stop.' Michelle

‘… as performers, they have a natural rapport with each other, a sense of fun and an ability to grip an audience totally’. Ed Maddrell, Folkwrite
