ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
‘On My Mind’ is singer-songwriter, Rosie Frater-Taylor’s debut album. To listen to these beautifully crafted pop song structures, after hearing her play live, only re-affirmed what I already know. ‘In A Dream’ is the perfectly formed song - strange, knowing chord changes and a strong sure melody, and marks Rosie as a unique, immensely accessible new voice. The banked-up vocals, Rosie’s creative, honest and highly musical guitar accompaniment, and heart-stoppingly fresh lyrics, like ‘nothing broken, nothing stolen’ echoes an important legacy of singer/songwriters from Janis Ian, through Joni and Tracey Chapman to the denser, jazzier roster - where Meshell Ndegeocello, Rebecca Martin and Emily King hold court. The live ‘Umami’ at Ziggy’s is just musical magic. With Rosie on full George Bensonesque mode, this is a cheeky extra track that shows her jazz chops (much like Amy Winehouse showed).
Superb, surprising and highly enjoyable, this is a cracking debut from this new young artist... “

Lyrics:
On My Mind:

Hold my hand for a while and let me look at you
Speak to me so quietly and I’ll tell you the truth

Give me time, you’re on my mind
Give me time, I will find my love
Oh I hear you, do you hear me too?
I’ll love you, just give me time

Overboard so insecure, why do you evoke?
Such obscurity within me, essence of repose
But so entrapped, I cannot simply tend to every whim
I’m strong and sound just the way I am, I’m not ready to begin

Give me time, you’re on my mind
Give me time, I will find my love
Oh I hear you, do you hear me too?
I’ll love you, just give me time

I know we’ll find, just give me time
Something to say, show me the way
I know we’ll find, just give me time
I know it’s you no questioning who

Give me time, you’re on my mind
Give me time, I will find my love
Oh I hear you, do you hear me too?
I’ll love you, just give me time

You’re on my mind oh, I will find my love, just give me time

Umami:

I don’t know who you are, I don’t know where you’ve been, no I don’t know
I don’t know what to do - who are you? I don’t know

Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami
Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami

I haven’t known you for long, please what’s going on, going on
I’m gonna take my time, I’m gonna live my life, live my life
Not gonna follow you, give your ego a boost, follow you
This cannot be a crime, you take up far too much time, too much time

Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami
Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami

This cannot be a crime, you take up far too much time, too much time

Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami
Who are you? Who are you? Umami. Who are you? Who are you? Umami

Lullaby

Suddenly your voice it seems to be
A lullaby wading me to sleep and I cried for the dreams
Show to me oh so monstrous things

Oh it’s time to sleep
Oh sing with me

And mother please
And father heed
Sing with me – your lullaby

All the time dreaming of the night
The time and time it takes you to arrive

Oh it’s time to sleep
Oh sing with me

And mother please
And father heed
Sing with me – your lullaby

We Want Change

Make you understand, this is my world, always a crime
To say what’s on my mind, find a reason, to leave you behind
Cannot take a breath, take a step, tell me the truth
You’ll find I have a mind, never mind, it don’t matter to you

Someone lead the way, that’s okay, it won’t be worse
Worse than all the pain, self-gain, somebody care
Someone take the blame, please not again, such filthy ways,
Your strong and stable lies, can’t justify, it’s in your eyes

We’re done with your games
Your twisted selfish ways
Not in my name
We want, we want change

Speak out shout loud – we want change
Speak out shout loud – we want change
Round and round again – we want change
Speak out shout loud – we want change

In A Dream

Every time she finds her temper
Her heart is on her sleeve
With longing pulsing through her
She’ll brush it off with ease
Too long she’s been waiting for love, that swiftly will decay
And oh he looks right through her
As though she were a dream
His conscience lacks awareness
Of all that he has been
Too long she’s been waiting for love, hoping

She’s on her own in a dream
Lost in between
Wandering wearily endlessly nowhere
She’s gone with nothing to show

And though he may be tender
His words will make you cry
And though his body lacks in stature
His mind will make you sigh
Too long she has travelled for love, his heart is made of stone
His eyes are like the ocean
Her feet are soaking wet
He makes a passing comment
As though they never met
Too long she has traveled for love, hoping

She’s on her own in a dream
Lost in between
Wandering wearily endlessly nowhere
She’s gone with nothing to show
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wasted Time

She’s not found the time to quantify
Find her vital signs, her state of mind
Days and nights may pass but they don’t last
She just can’t comprehend the time she’s spent

On and on, she’s waitin’ for life
She’s feeling confined
And wasting her time

She should learn to rest her busy head
Learn to not regret the words she said
To lead her life, her life’s to lead
Day by day it gets away

On and on, she’s waitin’ for life
She’s feeling confined
And wasting her time

Falling

Warm raindrop along my cheek
See the sky so incomplete
I wonder where the rainbow goes
Is it there to lead me home?

When Autumn dawns my blood runs cold
The rain it falls upon my face again
When the seasons change nothing’s the same
The rain it falls upon my face again

I can feel myself falling
I can hear the storm coming
Falling, drowning

How your wind engulfs my quiet
Your thunder dominates my night
Nothing broken, nothing stolen
Find a way to say goodbye

The rain it falls upon my face again
When the seasons change nothing’s the same
The rain it falls upon my face again

I can feel myself falling
I can hear the storm coming
Falling, drowning

Drowning in the darkness of the day - I’m falling
Twisting and turning in my bed
Tumbling over words, feeling unheard
I’m running from the storm that keeps me on - I’m falling
Drowning in the darkness of the day
Feeling so lost, so led astray
I’m twisting and turning in my bed – I’m falling
-------------------------------------------------------------
One Day

Listen, transition I question who I am
Fallen and taken, digression oh give a damn
Don’t have a plan, can hardly stand

Watching and waiting and touching all that I can touch
Sitting and waiting and yearning for your love
Is this me? All I should be?

One day, someday, I’ll find my way
Steady, slowly, lead astray
Today, make way, I’ll find my way
Unsteady, so boldly, lead astray

Who I am, all I can stand
Thinking and doing and saying what should be said
Loving, accepting, forgiving myself instead
Hold my hand, help me stand

One day, someday, I’ll find my way
Steady, slowly, lead astray
Today, make way, I’ll find my way
Unsteady, so boldly, lead astray

Give me a reason why, why I still have to try
I just can’t look away, can’t help but lose my way
I never learnt to feel, to feel something real
These feelings take control, my head to my toe
Soon I’ll know
