Album Notes
Thank you for your interest in Virginia Beauty, my love song to Virginia, “The Old Dominion”, “The Mother of Presidents”, the “Land for Lovers”. When I discovered that Virginia had no state song, I was inspired to create an anthem to the Virginia Commonwealth that reflects its natural beauty, its diverse landscape, its history and its people. I hope that I’ve successfully captured those unique qualities that brought me to Virginia...that keep me here and keep me in awe. I hope, too, that you will be moved to sing along with this song made for singing and for praising Virginia, a state that has played such an important role in the history of our great land.

Joyce Johnson Rouse has for years been entertaining and educating people, young and old, regarding the responsibility each of us has to protect and sustain our planet. With a Master of Arts in Earth Literacy and extensive music and theatrical training and 7 CD’s to her credit, she has traveled the country for twelve years, spreading the concepts of Earth connection and sustainability. Earth Mama’s motto is Helping Heal the Planet One Song At A Time.

Joyce’s songs have been recorded by pop and country music artists, featured in movies and ads, and used as theme songs for a number of events including national celebrations. Joyce’s original music has been used extensively by educators and by international and environmental and peace organizations, such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, UNESCO, and Earth Charter. For the 75th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in 1995, Joyce wrote and performed the theme song, “Standing On The Shoulders”, which premiered at official events in Washington, D.C.
Earth Mama has been a featured performer at the Nashville Songwriters Association International annual Tin Pan South concerts, hosted shows at the Bluebird Cafe, and commanded the main stage at Nashville’s annual Italian Street Fair. Joyce is also featured in the book “The Soul of a Writer. Intimate Interviews with Successful Songwriters”, by Susan Tucker, Journey Publishing.

Virginia Beauty, A Love Song
I am not from Virginia, and much of my life have considered it a place to travel through to get to family in North Carolina. But after hearing this love song, I am a new lover of Virginia too! Beautiful, simply beautiful!
