Album Notes
“Solo Wes” is the second CD of a new solo guitar series by acclaimed jazz guitarist Royce Campbell. This CD is a tribute to Wes Montgomery featuring many of Montgomery’s well known compositions such as “Four On Six,’ “West Coast Blues”, and “Road Song” (also known as “OGD”) combined with some classic standards that were favorites of Wes such as “Body And Soul,” “Besame Mucho,” and Round Midnight”. Campbell also contributes three originals that he wrote in tribute to Wes.
Although there have been numerous tributes to Wes Montgomery by jazz guitarists what makes this tribute unique is the fact that it is solo guitar. I am not aware of any other guitarists doing a solo guitar Wes Montgomery tribute.
The intimacy of solo guitar creates a warm mood. A masterful tribute by one of the best guitarists of today to one of the best guitarists of the past.

Frank Beckendorf from Chalmette Reviews

To Wes from Royce!!
This is a fitting tribute from one jazz pioneer to another. Royce does Wes justice as he remembers the giant's contribution to this genre. Wes led the way in many avenues of the jazz world and Royce follows closely with this fine compilation. Go Royce!!
