Album Notes
Chaozmos was originally released on CD in 1997 under the band name"Ysbryd", a Welsh word which means 'spirit'. The band, from West Wales, comprised of Marc Elton on Violin, Mandolin and Pipes and Roy Jones on Keyboards, Celtic Harp and Vocals. The word 'chaosmos' appears in Irish writer, James Joyce's masterpiece of ambiguity - 'Finnegans Wake'. It is a fusion of the words chaos and cosmos. It was decided to change the spelling of the word so that when pronounced, the idea of order wins over disorder! Chaozmos is an album of Celtic music recorded at Marc's studio in Morriston, Swansea, Slate Street Studios. The album contains eleven titles, all of which are original songs in both English and Welsh languages.

Roy and Marc first met in 1993, when they were collaborating on the music for a short film called 'The Tree' which was based on a Dylan Thomas short story. They then went on to write music for a longer film which formed part of Swansea's City of Literature festival, entitled 'The Holy Six'. The music for both films had a distinctive Celtic, Welsh flavour. Following this Marc and Roy decided that making an album of this kind of music would be a great thing to do. And after taking part in a business venture at Glastonbury Festival in the summer of 1995, where Marc and Roy ran a small World\Celtic music stage and a cafe called Maes Myrddin, they decided to begin the album in July of that year and completed it by early May, 1996.

Both Marc and Roy have a history of playing with various bands over the years. Marc used to be in a band called Solstice in the early eighties who produced an album and Roy's band Red Beat made several single releases around the same time. Since then they have worked as backing musicians for various artists, notably Howard Jones and Jim Diamond.

This album is a little known classic, loved by the select few who know of its existence.

Changing World Music

Traditional Celtic Music with a Welsh edge, there is something a little unusual and interesting going on here. Ysbryd have taken the Celtic sound as a basis, then added all manner of other musical ingredients, including unusual time signatures, modern technology, Caribbean, Latin and Jazz, all of which are played to a high standard. Innovative traditional music which has been blended with many other global sounds to produce a mixture of music past and present.
