Album Notes
Ruby Rae writes and performs music that defies easy categorization: a catalogue of influences would include Wanda Jackson, Mazzy Star, Stone Roses, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Both vibrant and dark, simultaneously catchy and psychological, the sound is cinematic and complex - drawing on diverse sources that include folklore, mythology, horror films, and autobiography.

“The Uncanny” was written during her residency at the Akumal International Art Residency in Mexico (2015). The songs create a journey inspired by personal transformation, Mayan legends, tropical + desert landscapes, hiraeth and nostalgia, and film noir.

Recorded at Mavericks studio in NYC by Bob Mallory, produced by Matthew Agoglia, and mastered by Alex DeTurk, the production of the album is gorgeous and paired with a brilliant illustration by talented artist Katherine Hardy.

The Washington Post says - "The throwback honkytonk tunes of Ruby Rae [are] darker than your usual singer-songwriter fare, with noir-ish and Southern gothic influenced lyrics"

Dig Boston says - “Ruby Rae is, technically, explosive.”
