Album Notes
Rudy Simone is an eclectic artist who set out to direct her creative flow to a wide range of outlets: making music, writing best-sellers and performing. Her critically acclaimed brand new studio effort, Gothic Blues, comes out with a title which highlights Rudy's unique dualism: The nocturnal aesthetics of the goth scene, combined with the warmth and instinct of blues, rock and pop with a retro feel.
Rudy's voice is bright and dynamic. She can be soft and gentle, as much as she can be gritty and upbeat; perfectly complementing the backing tracks; music which embraces a wide range of influences, from grunge and alternative rock, to a catchy pop edge.
1. Take Me Back Home
Instant classic with shades of Cab Calloway, Bowie and the Doors. A true marriage of genres with a haunting backdrop.
2. I Saved Your Space
Lush, haunting, catchy and beautiful. Singer Lena Rechin provides powerful lead vocals to complement Rudy’s rich tapestry of harmonies as well as a "Dia de los Muertos" feel to this track.
3. Whiskey Will
Humorous take on life with an alcoholic, featuring jangly guitars and an upbeat melody with 60's background vocals.
4. The Box and the Machine
Eerie, haunting, alternative, lush, almost trip hop ear worm tale of rebellion against an unseen unnamed entity.
5. Alice In Underland
Elizabeth Fraser meets Grace Slick in a song where Alice goes to Wuthering Heights in a plaintive appeal for love. Bittersweet.
6. Black Sheep
Rudy belts it out in this very Bessie Smith-inspired anthem to freedom.
7. Something New In Spring
A modern take on the classic Summertime, a wistful tale of hope and longing.
8. Gothic Blues
Very personal tale of a breakup with universal appeal. Sparse arrangement leaves room for impact of emotional vocals.
