ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Norwegian Rune Mandelid is a virtuos guitarist and many-faceted singer-songwriter and composer. The debut album "Spaceship Earth" is the culmination of a long journey as a guitarist and composer. In this shadowy pop/rock universe he has managed to create tunes that are easy to like even though the harmonies and time-signatures are sometimes complex.

In 2006 Vossa Jazz records released “Feels like night”, his guitar/electronics duo with vocalist Kari Nergaard Bleivik. He has performed at major jazz festivals and venues such as Vossa Jazz festival, Nattjazz, Nasjonal jazzscene and toured England with his Solo performances , most recently Viljandi guitarfestival in Estonia. He was also the guitarist for the aclaimed Norwegian pop band Captain Gone.
The sounds of his specially made 7-stringed acoustic guitars are always in the forefront, and gives the vocals a rich backdrop. Electronics and unusual tapping techniques we now associate with youtube stars like Andy Mckee makes his concerts a varied treat. His music can evoke associations to Thomas Dybdahl, Damian Rice and the likes, but you will definitely leave a concert thinking you have heard something new.

"The album Spaceship earth has been my obsession for 5 years now. It started with a strong desire to combine my acoustic guitar concerts with vocals. In 2012 when I was invited to play at the Viljandi guitar festival in Estonia I decided to add 2 compositions with my own voice. This was one hell of a challenge since one of the compositions was in the time signature 15/8, the sound of stringquartets, so I started writing down the tunes and experimenting with stringquartet arrangements. One of the first tunes I composed was "If I could" and I thought that turned out pretty nice with that dark sounding string vibe, so I decided to go for that sound. As a control-freak and composer I like the old-school way of making music by making scores. However, the best thing is that it usually ends up as so much more than dots on a paper with great musicians. I am lucky enough to have som amazing musicians and people with me on this project".
