Album Notes
Jeff Rupert and Richard Drexler. Many people think of jazz as being a purely spontaneous art form. In fact, nowadays, that is rarely the case. Of course, decades of experience come into play, but what you get here are the real spontaneous musical conversations of two extraordinary musicians who get along as well in life as they do in music. A long time in coming, I can only hope that more collaboration will come from this great duo. - Benoit Glazer

I can’t imagine life without a song, without music. Richard and I have played together since 1988 as members of several bands, including Kenny Drew Jr.’s quartet and the Jazz Professors. We’ve collaborated together on numerous albums and projects, including composing and arranging music for jazz quintet and orchestra.
We share an appreciation of the lyrical melodies and fascinating harmonies of Ravel, Scriabin, Debussy, Jan Hammer, Coltrane, Joe Henderson and many other composers. Richard and the late Kenny Drew Jr. have been my closest cohorts regarding these artistic endeavors. We have also enjoyed the ferocity of swing in the music of Oscar Peterson and Stan Getz. Richard and I focus on these qualities on this album recorded in a duo setting. -Jeff Rupert
